Why are people always making fun of my weight?

I am so sick of people laughing that Im fat. Ill explain a situation- last weekend my Grandmother took the family out to celebrate me starting college. As a gift at the dinner table, she told me she and Grandpa wanted to pay my tuition all 4 years. I was so grateful and everyone clapped. Then dinner was served and dessert too. There was one piece of cake left for dessert (we ordered a whole cake) and my Grandma had not had a piece yet- I think I had had 3 slices - but since Im a healthy girl, I love cake. Anyways she was about to take the slice but I got to it first, and had already started eating it when she asked if she could just have half a slice. The rest of the family urged me to let her have half. But come on I was already eating it so I said "No, its my cake!" And finished it. I didnt feel like sharing what I already ate. My brother then called me a "fat ***" and some people laughed. Why are people so cruel to me because of my weight?

first of all to answer your question people make fun of overweight people bc we live in a time where the majority of people think being shallow and beautiful is the only way most people can amount to anything. if your comfortable with your weight then just say screw everyone else bc your better than that. second....if you had 3 pieces of cake already the appropriate adult thing to have done was to let it go to see if anyone else wanted it....or ask if anyone else wanted it. and since your grandparents are willing to pay for 4 years of college you couldve sacrificed that one last piece of cake...its called common courtasy and i can see why your brother got defensive for your grandmother. its stupid and i wouldnt worry about it but in the future...never take the last of something without asking if anyone else wants it

Firstly, it was so rude that you did not let your grandma have that half a slice of cake....and since she and your grandpa were paying full tuition for all the years u are going to college, it wouldve been nice to give it to her as a way of saying "thanks"....
And secondly, the reason why you were called a rat B****, was because you had already consumed THREE pieces of your cake...so, you shouldve stopped and said "here grandma, I cannot finish this, u have it"....then everyone would not have acted the way they did to u in a public place...if it was in public...next time, show some gratitude towards those who give u gifts such as that....it would show u are mature and grateful for all ure getting....

I do not condone the name calling at all. The key is being considerate on both ends. They should consider your feelings when it comes to your weight. You should consider the fact after having 3 slices of cake, someone who has not had any was entitled to it whether or not they got to it last. This could have been resolved more peacefully. Best of luck and next time eat a little before you go so you will not be so hungry at the party and will not be perceived by others as greedy which causes negative unwanted opinions.

I too am over weight so i understand. However, it the situation you described i think you were called fat because it was a way of really getting to you. When people argue or fight they try to use the one thing they know about you that will really hurt. I don't feel that you were right in taking the last piece of cake, especially if you had already had three. A better thing for him to have said would have been "selfish ****."

I think three pieces was more than enough and since your grandmother hadn't had any yet you should have offered it to her first. It was still rude of you not to share if she asked you to especially after the gift you had just been given. If you have a problem with being over weight then do something about it or deal with people making comments to you but in a decent way. Sounds like your too defensive.

They weren't cruel because of your weight, they thought you were a jerk for not asking if your grandma wanted the piece first. Then you tell the person who will be paying for you entire college education that she can't have half a freakin' piece of cake?!?!? The fact that you are such a glutton that you had to have 4 pieces of cake when your grandma got none is more what they were laughing at.

I think you need to have a little more respect for your elders for one and then have a little more respect for yourself. I hope to God this is a BS question. I honestly can't believe this is real.

are you freaking crazy or what.fat had nothing to do with it ,just an easy shot.you had three pieces already why not give grandma a freaking slice the youth of today have no respect .i can tell real stories of abuse .like getting your *** beat for taking the last piece. that is what i use to get for not sharing.greed is the worst sin remember this if nothing else.

Well considering your grandparents just offered to pay your entire tuition, you should have been mature enough to give her the cake. You are a lucky girl to have that paid for and there are plenty of people that are burdened with school loans forever. I do not think it has anything to do with your weight, but that you were being rather selfish. I do not mean to sound harsh, but that is my interpretation of what you wrote. If you already had three pieces..then you should have called it quits after that and let grandma have the piece of cake.
