like you said done in an original way. Be yourself and don't be afraid of what he might say. You will feel so much better when is out in the open, you never know maybe he feels the same and you just helped him out.
Another thing is that you have to know him and at least be friends. If you and that guy do not talk or hang out you telling him this will freak him out.

If you have a picture of him and you together. Any random picture, or just a picture of you. Cut it up and make it into a really hard puzzle. On that picture though, write I love you, in a really nice script. So when he puts the puzzle together, it will have both of you and then in a nice silver color on top of it, it will say i love you.

Girl, be you, do you, tell him just how you feel. We take too much time trying to find the way to tell people stuff, instead of just saying it. So, whatever you decide to tell him do it soon because life is short and uncertain.

Well my philosphy: i never told a guy how i felt with out him telling me first. And to get him to just ask him one day when you two are alone and its quiet, ask him "how do you feel about me?" then tell him how you feel.

just tell him, it might be easier for both of you if u were to do it online, DO NOT, DO NOT write a note, someone else could see it and maybe make fun of you

write whatever you ant to tell him down on a peice of paper. this helped me before- just be careful with your choice of words.
and if you are going to tell him- make sure its one on one- and no one else around you
