I was wondering at what point do most babies who co-sleep with parent want to go to their own bed. I'm cosleeping with my 13 month old and was just wondering about how many more years he will want to sleep with me before we can get him into his own bed. Thanks!!

Well since we're talking about children self-weaning then the age will be different. I suggest that you start transitioning your child when it's no longer convenient for you to co-sleep. My 16 month old son still co-sleeps. My critiria for moving him to his own bed is when I get pregnant with baby#2 or when he reaches 2 yrs old and able to communicate his needs and understand reason.

So, I suggest that if you no longer want to co-sleep to go ahead and start. Expect that this wouldn't be easy and can take months. Perhaps you can start sleeping on the floor with him in your room. Then slowly move to his own room, but still sleep with him. Then you can sneak out in the middle of the night until you no longer have to sleep there.

Most parents are against co-sleeping because of the horrors of weaning them out of it. But I think if you're prepared and certainly do not think that putting them on their own beds will take 1 day, you'll be just fine. Good luck to you.

I think it depends on the child. I have several friends with different story's. In one case the 11 year old girl still trys to sleep with them. In another case they have a boy who began too sleep in his own bed at age 6. I have a 19 month old girl who is just now sleeping in her own bed . well at least until 7 a.m. then she sleeps in my bed. The only reason I tried to get her to sleep in her bed is because she was kicking me. Anyways enjoy this why you can they won't be little long...

You know what? I am a single mother of an almost 3 yr old and she has slept with me since she was born and I don't think that she will ever leave my bed. I am now pregnant with baby # 2 and I'm thinking of just buying a king sized bed for the 3 of us!!!

I know people who let there children sleep in the bed with them and well My aunt and Uncle she still sleeps with them and she is now 5. I know a little boy who was 10 or 12 before he stopped sleeping with his parents you better start teaching him now or he will be there forever.... Good Luck!!

It sounds harsh ...but get him out now!

I slept with my daughter to 14months and had a real hard time getting her to go to sleep on her own....She is now 3 1/2 and if she wakes up before we do she wants to climb in bed with us(we let her if its 1/2 hour before our alarm goes off)

You and he will get better sleep alone!

I remember asking my doctor that very question when my son was four years old and still in our bed. His reply was "don't worry by the time he starts going out with girls he will stop".
He did stop, and way before going out with girls. Just go with the flow and don't let it become too much of an issue.

It really depends on your child and what his needs are. You could always try giving him his own "big bed" on the floor next to yours or pushed up against yours as a beginning of transitioning him to his own bed.

BIG MISTAKE! You should have never let it happen because the transition is going to be really hard now. This probably isn't real good on the sex life either. You might want to start by putting him in his bed and sitting beside his crib till he falls asleep. Look out though because you will probably be woke up several times with a screaming child. Good Luck!!

He won't want to sleep in his own bed. Better start now if you want him out of your bed.
