Believe it or not, on this I have some experience - having once thought I'd bought the farm. The story itself is too embarrassing to retell, but suffice it to say I "knew" I'd be dead in a minute or two. It happened in Vietnam in 1967.
My last thoughts were "Oh Sh*t!"
As my tour of duty progressed, I realized that was a very popular sentiment as men faced the end. You'd wish there was a little more nobility in it, like in a good play or movie, but there ain't.

My last thought would be of my family and that I love them and I hope they realize how much and that they have a happy life. I would also have the thought that my 2 small granddaughters never forget who I am.

I would want to tell my daughter that I love her and let her know how much having her made me a better person and thank her for that.

i would think about all the risks i took and how good it felt to take them,and i would be sad to leave the people i love,and think of all the good times we had.
