I have a co-worker who is an avid fan of Star Wars. He has seen all of the movies and read all of the books many times. Recently, when just the two of us were talking - this man - let's call him Mr. Rogers hypothetically - sternly requested that I only refer to him as "DARTH Rogers."

What would you do in my shoes? I obviously don't want to hurt his feelings by calling him something he doesn't want to be called.

Mr. Rogers needs to grow up and realize that the workplace is not a Star Wars set. Between yourselves, sure, call him Darth Rogers. But in front of clients, he is Mr. Rogers, not Darth Rogers or Obi Wan Rogers or whoever. Frankly, if I were a client, I would question Mr. Roger's professionalism.

Ok, I've reviewed your other questions and I can't decided whether or not you're serious!

So if not, lol, that was funny.

If you are - lol, that was funny.

I don't believe there are any rules to cover this. But let's see if we can logic it out.

Did he introduce himself as Darth the first time you met? If not, you are under no obligation to help him get a self-chosen nickname to stick.

There's no reason you shouldn't call him Darth, but if you don't want to, you do not have to.

If he starts refusing to answer to anything else, then you're probably stuck. At least it's not an offensive nickname, like Mr. Big Balls!

Call him Darth Rogers!
No harm there unless he's trying to convince you to come on over to the dark side.
Good luck

Tell him that you cannot call him by his nickname at work because u have to stick to the formal names, and that u will have to call him Mr. Rogers when at work, but off work he can be whatever he wants and u won't mind calling him so.

This person needs psychiatric help, he is too much into the fantasy world and may lose touch with reality soon.

I would find an impossible request to comply with, so I would avoid calling him anything at all.
