My 84 year-old mother remembers that Alberta free-stone peaches were among the best tasting and made wonderful pies when she was younger. Today, peaches are not labeled the same. So, we are trying to find out if they are still available and where we might find them.

Alberta peaches are grown in Kline, South Carolina. The peach trees go on for mile after mile. When I was in America, I would drive to the groves several times a week, during picking season. Even my grandparents ate the Alberta peaches when they were living, and I am fifty-eight. These particular peaches are canned in Greer, South Carolina and are labeled Greer Peaches.

I think the correct spelling is Elberta. Go to the website www.masumoto.com where you can "adopt" an elberta peach tree. This entitles you to come up and pick the fruit on your adopted tree. Elberta peaches are the best tasting in the world however they bruise easily and are rarely found far away from peach growing areas.
