I'm looking for an English Bulldog to give to my husband as a birthday gift. He loves them SO MUCH! I am in Iowa, but I'd be willing to drive to any surrounding states. Please help me!

And yes to the one who accuses me of not being able to afford caring for a dog! I have a dog right now, and one thing I know is that she is not going without! It's just that $3,000 is a rediculous amount of money to pay for a companion. But I am able to care &love them unconditionally!
$3,000 is something I would easily fork over for a vet emergency though (although, I'd have to take out a loan)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but even if you can find one that is cheap to purchase, the costs of an English Bulldog are enormous due to their long list of inherited health problems. A dog from a good breeder will cost (much) more initially, but because good breeders are more careful about the genes and heritable illness, will most likely be much cheaper in the long run in terms of care and vet bills. If you get an inexpensive English Bulldog, it will be coming from someone who was not careful about the genetics and will be extremely likely to have/develop serious health problems. These are very expensive dogs to keep.
"Breathing problems; some have small windpipes as well. Also poor eyesight, very susceptible to heat stroke in warm weather or hot rooms and cars. Very cold sensitive. Puppies often delivered by caesarian section because of their broad heads. Its digestive system is very active and may be offensive to people with sensitive noses. Susceptible to skin infections. Also hip and knee problems."-- https://dogbreedinfo.com/bulldog.htm
Skin infections (due to delicate skin and all the folds) are VERY common, as are joint and breathing problems. Due to their short muzzle, ALL English Bulldogs have breathing problems.
While healthy dogs need $100-300/year of necessary vet and incidental care, with English Bulldogs it can run into the thousands each year. Please be sure you are ready for this financial burden, or it will be the dog that suffers. I hope this doesn't sound mean, because I am just trying to be informative. I recently got a puppy of another breed with many known health problems and have spent more than $500 at an inexpensive vet in less than 2 months of having her. She was rescued and I know she came from a bad breeder who didn't take genetics into consideration, so I know the costs are going to skyrocket if any of the common health problems this breed faces appear as she gets older (such as immobilizing joint problems that can cost thousands to repair and cancer).
Please do some thorough research on the problems of this breed and on breeders before purchasing a puppy. Educate yourself about puppymills, because they are very common in the Midwest, and are the largest producers of puppies with serious health problems because they are solely focused on making a profit, not producing healthy, happy dogs.
If you have questions, contact a representative of the nearest English Bulldog Clug. They would be happy to help you with any concerns, talk to you frankly about costs, and help you find a pup. Here are some links to start with. Good luck.

I myself have been looking for an English bulldog. I live in California and there are tons here, but they run from $1000 - $2500!!! If you do find one out of state, you can usually get them shipped to your local airport for about $250. Good luck! They are sweet dogs. Plus I heard that they have some oil in their skin which prevents them from shedding or getting flees! (that might be a "tall-tale" though).

Okay, I have to ask. If the price of a bulldog is a problem will you be able to afford the dog? Vets are expensive and you will need a vet to take proper care of the dog. They do get ill and they do get injured.

Try the pound. These dogs have a really strong odor that folks don't know about until after they get them home and they often end up at the pound.

Always try adopting, first.
Way cheaper, and you get to help a doggie, too!
