I hear that alot lately, that illegal immigrants (from Mexico in particular) have no skills and are uneducated and are worsening our culture. So who judges skill? We have illegal immigrants that are here in the US that were doctors and teachers in Mexico, that work as cooks, maids, and bus-boys, because of their legal status and their inability to speak English. So are the uneducated? Or are they just like most Americans that only speak one language? It is easy to think of someone that cannot communicate with you as childish, like a toddler, grasping for the right words...but you have to remember that it is not the same thing at all! They are adults that speak one language fluently and are intelligent....you just dont understand THEM!
I know that some jerk will say "so what is the question" so here it is : Are you uneducated and without skill if you dont speak English, in your opinion??

If you are in an ambulance and you refuse to be helped by a ET because they speak Spanish, you deserve what happens to you.

No, you are not uneducated. You just don't have the opportunity yet to get the job you probably deserve because you don't speak English. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do and take what you have to take until you can do better for yourself.

I would say anyone that would state that is uneducated, some of the best doctors in the world do not speak English; so does that make any less of a doctor? There are Mexicans that have had a good education and still find themselves on hard times. That is just a way of life, but to sit there and say they are uneducated just because of a language barrier is absurd, if you don't know the circumstances you should not pass judgment. There are alot of people out there who speak both languages, or know 3 languages that shows more education on their part then on those that sit there and complain. I think those people get more upset because they do not understand what is being said, rather than the fact that they are speaking a foreign language. They automatically assume they are being talked about, where as they will come out and say a derogatory statement in front of someone that they assume does not speak English, and get mad when they are confronted about it. That shows real smarts so who is the uneducated ones??

No, the language you speak has nothing to do with your education and skills... However, it has a lot to do with the abilty to make use of that education and skill in a society that speaks another language.
Learn the language, then apply for legal immigration to another country. But, illegally entering another country is a crime.
Entering Mexico illegally is also a crime, a crime that carries a 2 year jail sentence.
Hard to buy that educated people in Mexico cannot make a better living there, than working as an unskilled illegal alien laborer here. If the educated are DESERTING their country, then it sounds like a revolt should be on the Mexican people's agenda.... it doesn't appear that they can improve things by voting. And Mexico will never improve as long as its people desert it.
I don't have any sympathy for any illegal alien, they broke the law coming here illegally and they are breaking the law by remaining here. They are illegal invaders.
They belong in their own countries. They are not helping the USA in any way.

You say a lot of things that just are not true. Tell me who these doctors were in Mexico that now have to be cooks here in the USA. If you think Mexico is that backward (especially upper class) than you're just overgeneralizing to prove an incorrect point. Good money says that most doctors in Mexico speak English just fine. To me the real question is, when Mexico city is the most overpopulated city in the world and yet this country is seemingly half Hispanic, Why can't we control who comes here? We didn't ruin their country, why should we let them ruin ours? I know some "jerk" will say that I didn't answer his question, but that's because it's based on false innuendo with no clear purpose except to deceive. One language is fair for all...no special treatment for illegals!!

English is a language of the world in todays time .
There are so many languages that are existing the world over . However, albeit rich in text and words , these languages lack the global reach which english has .
Most of the countries , be it US , Middle east countires , european countires ... any country has english speaking population as majority . Besides , any business communication is more effectively done using english .
Thus , one can safely say that english is a global language and a very aspect of any education system the world over.
However, to make a comment that any non-english speking person is uneducated is a very unjust statement .They might be as talented as their english-speaking counterparts , but they won't have the global reach as the english- speaking ones .

How do you expect any of these people to ever advance and become successful by not learning English opening up business that carters only to Spanish people is a form of discrimination. I find it hard to believe a Dr would want to be a bus boy that doesn't even sound logically. Why don't you just shut Mexico down move everyone there to here. It seems nobody is happy there. They can learn English they just refuse to do it.I went to 20 different Hispanic places all the business were in Spanish all the menus were in Spanish in short Hispanics discriminate by not providing the same service they demand to everyone. That house and land you own in Mexico how many people are you allowing to live there ?

No, not knowing English does NOT make a person unskilled or uneducated. I think you are being silly to even assume people think this. However, I do not believe that the education people receive in many countries is equivalent or as good as the education in the USA. I know that in many countries in Central America, for instance, people generally go to government funded school until grades 6 or 7. Most leave school at that point and, if they do carry on, they call it "going to College" and only those who can afford to pay for this "College" education, get it. Therefore, even many of their "professionals" have only elementary school education or maybe one or two years of "College," and this includes even their military personnel, teachers, and police! However, I'm not saying that the people are not as intelligent as people in the USA because even I know that IQ cannot be measured by level of education, alone. The inability to speak another language has nothing to do with a person's intellect or skill level. Perhaps they have never felt a need or desire to learn another language. Personally, I have learned some French in school and a smattering of Spanish, but nothing that would make me feel conversant in these languages. However, if I were going to live in Spain or Latin America, I believe I would make it my business to learn at least conversant Spanish. Same thing if I went to live in Quebec or France, I would want to learn conversant French so that I could communicate with the people around me. I would NOT expect THEM to learn English for MY benefit! And, particularly, if I had an occupation, profession or trade that I wanted to work in, in a different country, I would expect that I would HAVE to learn their language in order to work in my skill area. If not, then I should NOT be complaining about having to do menial labor just because I refused to learn their language. If someone comes to the USA and wants to work in their own profession, then they should have to learn English in order to do so. I would NOT want a person who only speaks Spanish to be attending to me in an emergency as an Emergency Response Technician!

Uneducated in our country. Doctor, Lawyer, Brain surgeon from other country doesn't mean a thing here. People have to start all over again, plus learn the language.
I guess my answer is yes, you are uneducated and without skill until you can communicate with people in our language, and get a Degree or Diploma from our Country. Not a nice way of putting it, but it's plain and simple.

They can be more intelligent and better workers than other applicants, but still will be unable to perform all the tasks and duties of most employees in this country. If by skill you mean employable skill then they are really handicapped and in that sense do have less skills in an essential area. Of course, language is a skill that can be obtained by education, and if they want to earn what they are worth it is their obligation to communicate with customers and other employees and supervisors. Otherwise relegated to bottom jobs with Spanish/English skilled supervisors who may be less skilled otherwise, than they are. Sorry. But same applies to US citizens going to work for corporations in Colombia for example. They must learn Spanish and not just any Spanish but "class Spanish" No Spanglish accepted.

No but our country functions with the use of English. It would be hard to live in an English speaking country and not understand the language. If someone can't function in society they are wrongly assumed to be uneducated and without skill.
