Do you think that one day all passangers, in addition to having a passport, will be required to have documentation providing a security clerance issued by the government allowing them to purchase tickets for international flights? How about domestic flights? Would you be for or against such policy. Approved clerance would require a complete background check with personal referance checks much like some states and local entities require for concealed/carry gun permits.

I know is sounds insane but think about it for a moment.......once you jump through the hoops to get the documented clearence all your trips would be a breeze and you could feel safe and confident that all your fellow passangers want to reach their desttination as safely as you. No more sitting there looking at some guy wondering if he is a terrorist.

This would just be another bureaucratic hoop to jump through. These are easily foiled, as documents can be forged and identities stolen. Of course, it might make people FEEL safer, which has been the point of most of the "security" measures since 9/11. Think about it seriously; how many of the changes would have actually prevented what happened? Pat-downs at NFL games? Please!

Look at the silly knee-jerk reactions today. No more liquids carried onto planes. Except for medications of course. Ayman al-Zawahiri, the guy who has been starring in the recent al-Qaeda videos is a medical doctor. So, it's not as if there aren't physicians who are sympathetic and who might write out prescriptions to go with the terrorists' "liquids." But, the point is that the rule makes people FEEL safer, even though it provides no practical increase in security.

If that's what you're suggesting, more feel-good phoney security, let's just skip the whole thing, I beg you.

Total insanity! And even the neo-cons would fight that one once they figured out they wouldn't be flying for 40 or 50 years while their clearance languished in the basement office of some bureaucrat.

The backlog for security clearances for legitimate purposes is over 2 years now. Can you imagine what it would be like if everyone had to get one just to fly? Most people would be in their grave long before the clearance was granted. Only the well-connected would have them, further tipping the balance of power to the well-heeled.

You're kidding... right? Americans go spastic just thinking about having to get a passport to go to Mexico or Canada because they can't understand why they can no longer use their water bill or the voter's registration card to enter the country.

This whole 'passport to re-enter' thing is just one more attempt by the government to keep Americans from leaving their own country... an idea that I really do agree with... I'm tired of being embarrassed by other Americans when I'm in a foreign country... it's best they stay in America... good place for them..!

I distinctly propose speaking to an agent with that distinctive airline. As of now airlines are consistently changing their rules distinctly with worldwide flights. Please verify with the working service in the event that they're code shared.

I am not afraid to fly.

But I am afraid of the airport itself.

The long lines and waiting forever-what a waste of time.

The terrorist have won and ruined travel as we knew it.

Rules and Regulations are great...if everyone followed them the way they were suppose to be!!
