WHAT CAUSES A POSITIVE ANA ONE TIME AND NEGATIVE THE NEXT. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET DX FOR 2 YEARS, AND I HAVE ALL THE CLASSIC SYMPTOMS OF LUPUS INCLUDING A SED RATE OF 50 AND A POSITIVE ANA AND THEN IT WAS NEGATIVE THE NEXT TIME AND THEY WON'T CALL IT LUPUS--JUST WONDERING. THANKS

One of these is a lab. error. Get it confirmed the 3rd time from a good standard laboratory. To confirm lupus, you need another test, i.e. anti double- stranded DNA.
