At the end of the last glacial period of the last Ice Age, when the glaciers went into their final melting, global ocean levels were rising. At that time, the level of the Mediterranean Sea was also rising, as well as the Sea of Marmara (which is connected by the Dardanelles to the Aegean Sea, and thereby to the Mediterranean Sea). When the level rose to near it's current level, the Sea of Marmara overflowed it's bank at the point now known as the Bosphous.

Likely, Noe, and the civilization in which he lived, was located in this area, and when the Black Sea formed, his civilization was destroyed, and Noe (and others) were forced to relocate, moving south or east.

Proof to support this theory can be found in the nature of the Bosphorus. Studies of the Bosphorus, which is classified as a strait, have shown that water flows in both directions, with an outgoing current near the surface and an incoming current(flowing into the Black Sea) at the deeper level.

The story of a magnificent boat to carry the survivors through a flood is obvious metaphorical. Even if Noe was able to build a large enough boat to hold all of the animals, he would have had to gather animals from other continants, such as Australia and the Americas, as well as numerous islands with unique fauna, such as Madagascar, Galápagos Islands, and others.

The fact that the bible referes to this boat as an arc is also a likely clue. The bible uses the work arc one other time, to refer to the tabernacles carried out of Egypt by the fleeing Hyksos as they were driven out. Likley, the word used in the original texts (which has been translated to "arc") was meant to represent a similar receptical of knowledge, rather than a menagerie.

You know, I started to let this question slide, but I just can't.

Most people don't understand the science of what happened during the worldwide flood of Noah.

Prior to the flood, the structure of the Earth was much different from what it was today. The mountain ranges were much smaller than today, and there was an immense ring of water (in what became Earth's outer atmosphere) which surrounded the entire Earth. This barrier of water between us and space was what created the Earth's tropical world-wide environment.

"And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. "

Note, it never rained prior to the flood. There was no water cycle like what we now experience.

"And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground".

Note also that there were large storehouses of water contained deep in the earth. When the time for the flood came, these reservoirs (already under immense pressure from the weight of the earth) broke loose and sent water hurtling into the atmosphere at incredible speeds. When this happened, the water shooting skyward from underground, disrupted the delicate balance which held the water above the sky. This created the first instance of rain, one which lasted peculiarly long because of all the water available at the time.

"In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened."

Because all the water from within the earth was now gone, the Earth settled down into the now-empty crevices (ie a worldwide tectonic event). As the Earth settled, the mountain ranges grew higher, the ocean trenches buldged, and the results are still visible each time we examine the mid-oceanic ridge.

Once you get past these, you should have no problem accepting the remainder of the flood story.

As for proof:
One - we have the Bible, which is as good of a historical record as we have for the events.
Two - we have the actual evidence surrounding Noah's ark on Ararat. Look at the names of the towns in that part of Turkey, and you'll see some have names relating to the tale of Noah.
Three - stories of floods exist in all the major anthropological groups around the world, Christian and non-Christian alike. Many of the stories are similar, with the basic elements of a single man serving to endure the flood and perpetuate the human race. How could so many exist with common elements without a common true ancestor.
Also, here is a quote from gotquestions.org. . .
"There are many extra-biblical evidences that point to a worldwide catastrophe such as a global flood. The vast fossil graveyards found on every continent, the large amount of coal deposits that would require the rapid covering of vast quantities of vegetation, the fact that oceanic fossils are found upon mountain tops around the world, the over 270 flood stories from all parts of the world, and the large extent of geological formations showing vast layers of sedimentary deposits (including those found in the Grand Canyon) all lend credence to the occurrence of a global flood."

Good luck. And I almost forgot. You and several of the others here on this question should read a book called Noah's Ark: A Feasibility Study by John Woodmorappe. He painstakingly shows how the vessel of the ark was a feasible construction.

You have to understand how people perceived the world, as they saw it then. Just like at one time, it was thought the world was flat and had small land masses surrounded by water.

I believe the flood was only regional in today's terms. However, it was widespread enough at the time to have been thought to be worldwide. And, I believe the Noah's Ark story was real.

There had been photos taken on Turkey's remote mountain of what appeared to be the remains of the Ark. An expedition was made there too. However, due to severe weather condition, only a small fraction of the ark material was retrieved. All seemed to be consistent with the story in the Bible. Now that the mountain is closed by the government of Turkey, no more expedition could be made there again.

Since no more study could be made, the controversy lives on.

I know it happened...God wasn't happy with the people on earth because there was so much sin going on. So He wanted to destroy it. He decided to start all over, so He told Noah to build an ark with two of all creatures and his family. He flooded the whole earth...then after he brought the waters down He put a rainbow in the sky saying that this is his promise that He will never flood the earth again. Next time with fire. -Genesis Ch. 6

word that that's a million/twelfth of the dimensions, and they nonetheless did not drift it on a canal. discover me a maritime engineer that could layout a timber boat the dimensions of the ark that isn't split or leak like a sieve on a comfortable ocean swell and that i will take the tale fairly more effective heavily. also i must have neglected the bit about Noah making 6ft intense panes of glass. The abode windows on the ark are defined as a unmarried window one cubit sq.. to provide adequate ventilation over the three decks Noah could ought to layout a device to flow air besides the undeniable fact that the window at about 2 hundred mph. finally, the position did you get 40 days? that is how lengthy it rained. bypass back a re-examine the passage. The animals were on the ark for one 3 hundred and sixty 5 days.

Of all the christian mythology tales Noahs Ark has to be the most far fetched of any of them. Just by reading it and actually thinking about the logistics of what is being described it is very obvious that it is indeed just a tale, a fable, a myth. And that is not even getting into the serious errors and contradictions contained within it (i.e. bats are birds, rabbits chew cud, Noak brought 2 of every animal in one part and then it talks about Noah brought 7 of each, and there are many more).

Satellite photos of Mount Aratat, Turkey taken by commercial imaging satellite company Digital Globe released today are said to contain proof of the existence of the biblical Noah's Ark.

The images, revealed at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., are said to reveal a man-made structure at the site where the Bible states the vessel came to rest.

The claim was made by Daniel P. McGivern, president of Shamrock -- The Trinity Corporation, who according to a press release has been searching for the Ark for several years.

The first pictures of the site were taken by the U.S. Air Force in 1949. The images allegedly revealed what seemed to be a structure covered by ice, but were held in a confidential file labeled Ararat Anomaly for years. In 1997, the government released several of these images, but experts deemed them inconclusive.

McGovern's is not the first satellite search for the Ark. In 2002, Porcher Taylor, a senior associate (nonresident) at the prominent think tank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., also requested satellite imagery of the area to see if the mythical vessel truly existed.

The summer of 2003 provided a great opportunity to take a new series of photographs, according to the release, because it was the hottest summer in Europe since 1500. This caused a massive meltdown on Mount Ararat. McGivern used DigitalGlobe’s Quick Bird satellite to collect a new set of satellite images.

If you accept that God is... if you accept that God created all that makes up this universe... if you accept that God isable to do what He wants with His creation... If you accept that you are part of God's universe and are made up of what he created... if you accept that God can do with you what he pleases... If you accept that God is all powerful... then you can accept that The Flood occured... if youeven doubt one of the things I listed you will not be able to truly accept that The Flood occured...
to simplify it a bit... God makes the rules... it's his ball and his game... He can do what he wants...if he wanted to flood the world he could flood the world...

There is absolutly no way, given man's very limited ability to use God's gift of science, that The flood can be proven or disproven... so I personaly do not worry about it... and yes, I am of The Christian Faith and I am leaning towards the fundamental on most issues... But there are more important things to worry about than trying to prove the unprovable and disprove that which can not be disproven.... believe or not...it is your choise.

I believe that the Great Flood happened. Bearing in mind, however, that the "known world" at the time was much smaller than the actual world.

There are odd things that seem to support the idea, such as the finding of sea creature fossils in the mountains.
