Once you get a puppy, begin "crating" him during the night. That means putting him in a sort of cage once you can't look after him. I have a pretty big tent like cage for my little Dachshund with a doggie bed. Crate him at night when you go to bed so he will get used to it. Make sure to take him out every few hours and keep food and water in the crate. Once the dog becomes about 8 months and older, he can hold it for about 8 hours, so make sure to take him out as soon as you wake up and as soon as you wake up.

think about a dog's point of view. would you REALLY want your dog to be all alone at home while you're out at school/work/etc? it's like being left all alone by your parents while you were a little kid (no, daycare and school are completely different - if your parents just left you home alone while you were 2 years old, how would that make you feel?).
i know you want a dog, and i know i really want one too, but it's very impractical. instead, try volunteering at the local animal shelter if you have time, so you can play with the dogs there, or find a job at a pet store. or just go into the pet stores more often to see the dogs.
having a dog is a big responsibility. true, dogs don't need as much attention as babies/children do, but you still can't just leave the dog all alone while you're attending to other responsibilities. wait a few years until you think you're really ready to give your dog your full attention and love, because that's what dogs deserve. it's not fair to "man's best friend" to be giving YOU all his love, yet you can't spend time with him during the weekdays.

You can have dogs if you have a normal work or school schedule. Millions of people do. But it does take some extra work to keep the dog happy and occupied while you are out. Crate training and puzzle toys are the best allies to working-people wh have dogs.
Adult dogs are best for working homes. Puppies need much more care and attention and when they are very young can't hold their bladders for very long. An adult dog who is trained and well-exercised can be at home alone for 6-9 hours during the day.
I and my husband work full time with two dogs. It's fine, but when we are home, the dogs are the #1 priority.

A lot of people have addressed this question really well. I just wanted to bring up the point that beagles are very high maintenance, high energy dogs. They will not do well in the environment you are describing; they need people around. Good luck!

Do you mean you are gone for the whole day? If not maybe you can promise to walk him in the morning before you leave and in the evening. As long as you keep up after your dog and give him good exercise every day it should be a good thing for you and your pet. Good luck!

first i would... consider adoption and apeal to that side of it.... there are millions of dogs that die everyday because some one like you who would be a wonderful dog ownee would rather go buy some 2 or three hundred dollar dog then go to the shelter and spend 75 on a already fixed dog. who is in need of love. and deserves life with a family

Get a cat! canines are social animals and inspite of the undeniable fact which will 'proceed to exist' being compelled to stay a solitary life, that isn't honest on any canines. Cats are far greater able to handle certainly one of those life. that is distinctive if the canines is there while circumstances substitute that recommend they could be left for hours yet to hold a canines, extremely a doggy (which i'm going to get to in a mo.) right into a house to be left on my own for that long - no. I waited till shall we handle to pay for for me to provide up working to handle a doggy formerly paying for one, and then I went back area-time while he substitute into 6 months. He went stunning back to messing around the dwelling house. doggies - could have somebody around different the time, if no longer the rest to get dwelling house-coaching taken care of out. they could be taken out each and every hour in the process the day, and a minimum of as quickly as in the process the night too. and that's in basic terms their bathroom desires. sure you are able to confine them, yet back doggies could have the means to run around in the process the daylight hours, so their bones, joints and muscle tissues advance properly. they won't if the undesirable animal is close in a crate for hours on end. And mentally a doggy must be inspired - he desires something to play with him, in any different case he's going to be noisy, and detrimental. in case you're making plans on having a doggy - you are able to have somebody are available in to be with him, or get him right into an afternoon creche. And older person might artwork, perchance one that is used to being left on their own like this. Please don't get a hound - of each and every of the breeds/communities, that's one that, being a p.c.. animal, does no longer do wellness on my own for hours. So my message is the two wait till perchance your spouse can supply up working an entire week, or get a cat in case you like a puppy.
