hi mrs. t.
just came back from the sierra nevada -- my sister got destroyed by the mosquitoes, but i was ok. you have a few options:

1) garlic: start taking some garlic pills before you go and continue to take them on your trip. they don't make you stink, but the garlic gets in your blood and should make the mosquitoes less inclined to attack you.

2) sleeves/pants: if it's not too hot, cover up. remember that mosquitoes' favorite time is dusk and dawn, so at those times, cover up.

3) repellent: citronella oil, geraniol, peppermint oil, and then there's deet. personally, i don't like deet because it's so harsh -- if you use it, i wouldn't get anything more than 25% deet. the other natural things also work, but if you're in a heavily infested area, you have to keep reapplying.

4) Vitamin B: never tried it, but some swear by it. Take a B complex pill.

5) Dryer sheets: tuck a dryer sheet through your belt loop: it seems to work as a natural repellent.

Good luck and keep the buggers away!

Mosquito's bite because they are drawn to carbon dioxide (which we all exhale.) The best thing I have found is a mosquito machine that throws off as much carbon dioxide as if you had 10 big bears breathing in your back yard (very expensive though) In lieu of that, a good bug repellent with lots of deet (like Deep Woods Off) but it is dangerous to little kids, so don't use it on them.

There's is nothing out there that can prevent mosquitoes from biting at some point in time. Just put on some good bug's spray and wear long sleeved shirts and pants.

Lavender and citronella are two great all natural ways of getting rid of mosquitos. Crabtree and Evelyn makes a great lotion with Lavender in it (it has a light herbal scent) Some companies even make convinient DEET free wipes with anti mosquito stuff. If you're not concerned about cancer try anything with DEET. it's the strongest stuff. BTW, mosquitos are attracted to sweat and to sweet scents.

yeah a survey conducted randomly on about 50 people both men and women inclusive. shows that 30 of the people who had body odours do not get bitten by mosquitoes but the other 20 do get bitten. so if u have a body other u dont get bitten ok or simpl use an insecticide.

Mosquitoes, black flies, no-see-ums and other things like that are attracted mainly by the carbon dioxide that you exhale as you breath out. The products already mentioned are excellent but here we sometimes take very small quantities of vitamin B. It tastes just like yeast. This sometimes helps but ask your druggist if it is suitable for you, as it can be poisonous if taken in large doses.

Buy Skin So Soft from Avon. Hunters use it on their hunting dogs and themselves. It's great.
