I know what insulators are I've been a communications tech for 40 years. These are new and usually mounted about half way up the pole and have a weather tight enclosure with an antenna on top connected to it.

SI-REANS, Tornaddy sirens, air raid sirens, "don't crush that drwarf hand ne thea pliers" sirens. I whet to a friends house Saturday arriving at noon, when they twst the SI-REANS in OKC, his is acroess the street and man if you hear that thing if you son't get up and move, well your just plane crazy...

It souds like your are describing ceramic insulators. Without insulators the electricity would go from the wire, into the pole and to the ground.

You all need to open your minds...

Maybe... 6 flying saucers were flying in close proximity and hit the telephone poles!

Or... i've heard rumors that some cities (Chicago?) are putting in free internet for the entire city. Those could be wireless routers.

Or... designs?

It's a stack of high voltage insulators used for fault detection and transmission of fault location.Just a guess
