I had an idea that will sadly never happen. How about we make sex totally illegal for every person in the country, until they pass a government mandated course, with issues especially dealing with pregnancy, contraceptives (especially the fact that none are 100% effective), Sexually Transmitted Diseases, as well as how effective abstinence is, the entire program would be thought without any type of religious guidelines. And punishments for having sex without the certification of the program would be a 1-5 years in a jail cell.

Anyway, this was somewhat intended as a joke, but if you actually think about it for more than 2 minutes, it would stop a lot of the people on here from asking, I only had sex for 2 minutes, could I be pregnant? I'm 16, how do I tell my mom if I'm pregnant, what should I do if i find condoms in my 10 year old daughters room?

Not that I care, but it would see that ignorance appears to be bliss when dealing with sex.

And just FYI for the parents that are so afraid to talk to their kids about sex that they either lie, or avoid the subject completely, this solution would take care of that for you!

oh and for rape cases, this could add an additional charge!

2006-08-10 06:04:17 · update #2

and no, if the person being raped did not take the course, no charge would be dealt onto them, of course

excellent suggestions, but No, it won't ever happen. for some odd reason, America gets this weird puritanical streak about sex ed & the more natural aspects of sex - they will pay to see porn flix, surf the web looking for pix of stars boobs or butts - but when BabyTalk magazine put a picture of a nursing infant on the cover people were totally outraged! One married woman wrote that she had to remove the cover so her husband wouldn't see it! Why? How stupid. My ex-husband doesn't think my son needed a family life class in the 5th grade - he felt it shouldn't be taught in school. All it covered was hygiene basics & some of the first signs of puberty. Those boys were 11 year olds - this was all stuff they needed to know. He's an ***. I am totally open with my children about sex - if they ask a question, I answer it - I give them what they need to know but don't go into gross-out overload details - lmao - & they are comfortable with what they know. Five minutes of pleasure can transfer a disease, make a new life, ruin another life. Hard lessons to learn . . .

It's not a new idea--several people have proposed it over the years. Unfortunately, it does rather tromp on most people's ideas of personal freedom. ^_^;
With that aside, I've always been in favour of needing a license first; also, you'd have to renew your license every few years, and as part of the renewal, you'd be checked for STDs; if you picked any up, your license would be stamped with the info, rather like the way your drivers license will indicate if you have to wear glasses when you drive. That way, you could be required to use condoms until the STD is treated, to prevent infecting other people; or, at the very least, it would let other people know the risks involved in having sex with you until the STD is treated. If it's treatable, the next time you take the test, a clean bill of health would allow the restriction to be lifted again off your license.

I think your proposed punishment is a bit steep, though. Start with fines for the first infraction and suspension of sexual privileges (masturbation only for a month), etc. Otherwise you'll just end up with everyone in prison having sex with each other, which isn't really what we're aiming for. :P

You raise a valid point. It's so sad that teenagers have not realized that a baby is permanent. Reading some of these post from a female point of view I think that some are trying to get pregnant, which is even worse. Parents really should take some part of the blame for teen pregnancy. My views have sex if you want to just cover yourself up. At least if they think you wont be mad at them for having sex they wont be afraid of their parents finding a condom in their rooms. My parents were really strict as far as sex goes, I was too afraid of being caught so I never tempted until I moved out.

I don't think that would ever happen, but u shouldn't get so stressed out about it. Everything happens for a reason(I think), and I don't think u'r pregnant, but in the future use protection, or don't have sex, to avoid u ever needing to tell u'r mom that u'r pregnant at such an early age.

Like you suggest it will never happen but not a bad idea to ponder. I would like to see parents required to get a licence and/or certificate that states they fully understand the responsibilities that they are about to partake in by giving birth.

a friend of mine was talking about something similar to this the other day.. basically there being a fine. and after finishing the 'course' all women getting UID's until they have to REQUEST to have children, any woman or man not suitable for kids (like molestors ect) will get historectomies and visectimies.
That was his idea..

Hey I think that you could be on to something. We do as a whole need to put a stop to that kind of stuff with young kids. It is so over rated.

only problem---that is a very still sentence...1-5 years in a jail cell...what about showing them further the consequences on unsafe sex....with video tape, etc.
