How old is the kitten, if its more then 6 weeks, there are a few antibiotics you can try for a respitory illness. I would go with Amoxicillin or clavamox. I just adopted 2 kittens from the shelter and both were sick with upper respitory infections. Their eyes, were running and they were sneezing all the time with runny noses. I've been using amoxicillin 250mg. (the pink liquid) It's working great. They each get 1/2 a teaspoon every 12 hours. It's available in pill form also. Go to 1800petmeds.com. Look under medications. You'll be able to purchase it there. Make sure you get enough for each kitten for 14 days. Respitory infections are very stubborn. Try not to miss a dose. Also, if it's eyes are running, order gentimyacin drops. 2 Drops in each eye every 4 hours. Good luck. Oh, and the medications are faily inexpensive.
PS, please try to see a vet. It may not be a respitory infection. It could be distemper or feline lukemia. Or maybe even a polup in the throat or air way.

Generally speaking, you can't get an antibiotics without a vet prescription so you'll need to see the vet first. Antibiotics are prescription only... 1-800petmeds will sell them to you IF your vet faxes in a prescription - so again, you gotta see the vet first.
I agree on the Clavamox - my rescue kittens all had rhinotracheitis - basically a cat cold - and they recovered fine with this antibiotic.
Now, I have been doing research and found that colloidal silver, oregano oil and grapefruit seed extract *might* be of some use as an antiviral / antibiotic. I haven't tried it yet but if you really can't afford a vet, it might be worth looking into
As for your suggestion of a human antibiotic, the answer is yes and no. Many human antibiotics will kill cats - they can't synthesisze many substances that humans and even dogs can (ie: tylenol and aspirin will kill a cat).
Amoxillan or Zithromax are human antibiotics that are presbribed to cats but always in a solution (same as what you would give a child, comes in a bottle and you give it with a syringe or eye dropper).
Dosage is another thing to consider, it's pretty hard to give a cat 3mg of medicine for example, if the pill is a 500mg pill ! You can't divide it up that small !
Another thing to remember is cats have a poison protection mechanism that will make them foam at the mouth and drool a lot if they come into contact with soemthing deemed "poisonous" so making them lick a bit of powder from a crushed pill will trigger this response and no medication will get into the cats system.
Good luck

You would need to take him to a Vet for this. Cats can get respiratory infections that eventually cause them to stop eating. Only a Vet can prescribe the antibiotics, probably will start with Amoxicillin if this is indeed respiratory.

You should take it to the vet first...never give a pet medicine without a vets suggestion. The dosages could be way incorrect and do more harm than good. Get the correct one from the vet.
Angina is not a breathing problem its a heart problem.

Excuss me? If you can't take care of your pets you shouldn't have any. There are pet stores who offer a variety of services on Saturday's. For your info, you can not give your pet any antibiotics, because you could kill it. There are different kinds of antibiotics and only a Vet can precribe them. It's also determind by weight. Give your kitty to someone who cares. You got a computer, but you can't go to a Vet?

DO NOT use any human medicines on cats, ever.
You are not licensed to give antibiotic to your cat. They are powerful drugs and dangerous if used improperly. You can not make an appropriate diagnosis of your cat's needs.
A vet visit is less than $50 and the anitbiotic they use for cats is about $13.
You need to deny yourself something, lattes, home-delivered pizzas, whatever.
Yes, I am getting angry at you. 'Nough said.

You absolutely need to get that kitten to a vet as soon as possible. It could die if not.
Vets prescribe antibiotics anyway.

Angina is chest pain...but a broad spectrum antibiotic should be helpful....this type covers many types of bacterial infections. Here are some examples of broad spectrum antibiotics:ampicillin, amoxicillin and cefaclor. You should find out what is best used in cats and the proper dosage according to your cats weight.
