it is natural that everyday some hair falls, so perhaps when you don't brush it everyday, you feel like more hair is falling when you do, so your best solution is to brush regulary and massage yr head so warm up the follicles and protect your hair.

The average person looses about 100 hairs a day. If you seem to have excessive hair loss check with your doctor and stop using your shampoo & conditioner. See what your doctor says, if you are taking any hormones (i.e. birthcontrol) that could cause it as well as any perscription medications.
Stress is a big factor as well. Relax and keep a log while this is happening, take note of what you ate, drank, did you swim, & have been around any chemicals (dish soap, cleaning products etc). Any new pets or hair products?
But call your doctor 1st.

It could be something with your thyroid, especially if you have dry skin and have started to gain weight. It could be a lot of things really, so talk to a doctor first.
Then talk to your mom and see if she or someone else in your family has had a problem. If so, maybe she knows a solution. The women on my mom's side of the family tend to lose their hair as they get older. Yeah, something to look forward to :-(
Anyway, when I started losing excessive amounts of hair, I started using a shampoo by Nioxin that my hair stylist suggested. Some people say it doesn't work, but it did for me. I only use it once or twice a week because I don't like the way it makes my hair feel. (I have no commercial interest in that product, it just helped me regrow some of my hair.)

Everyone loses 50-100 hairs every day naturally. Other things that can trigger hair loss: stress, vitamin/nutrient deficiency, illness, drop in estrogen level (for females). If you think you are losing an excessive amount of hair, make sure you are getting enough vegetables and take a multivitamin. Assuming you are female, think about if there is any reason for an estrogen drop: being premenstrual (will last 2-3 days), quitting the pill (this can cause hair shedding for up to 6 months), having recently given birth (ditto), being menopausal. Also, women's hair tends to thin with age, they just don't usually have the receding hairlines that men have (hence older women get perms to make it look thicker).

My hair fell out when I started starving myself on diets. It was awful. I recommend eating a lot of jell-o for a while to help the hair loss. It works like a charm. I did that and even started growing new hair. Good luck!

Thyroid problems can be to blame for excessive hair loss. Also - I lost a lot of hair after the birth of my son. Have you had a baby lately? I would talk to your doctor if this is an ongoing problem.

Don't worry, they say everyone loses on an average of 1,000 hairs a day. It's ok, unless, you are starting to go bald, then i would go visit a dr. Do you dye your hair alot? If so that may be a reason why. Or if you don't eat alot, then you will start to lose your hair. If it's not either of those, i think you will be fine.

Hormones can make your hair fall out, too many or lack thereof. When I was pregnant, my hair came out in clumps in the shower, when I brushed it, even just running my fingers through it would pull out 5-10 hairs.

No, but I wish it would, I have so much hair.
I'm sure that your problem is related to your diet and also it's because you might be stressed but you don't notice it. Some types of stress are very hard to find out.
