There could be many reasons as to why your grandson still wets his bed. He could be scared to get up in the middle of the night, there could be medical or psychological reasons, or it could be poor habits before going to bed. Try reducing the amounts of liquid he has a couple of hours before going to bed. Also, try to use nightlights along the way to the bathroom so that it seems less scary. If you go to bed a few hours after he does, wake him up and have him go to the bathroom. If he continues to wet the bed, take him to a doctor. It might be a medical or even psychological condition. Most importantly, ignore insensitive, moronic comments like "thats digusting, and not right".

Is this a new thing or something that's been going on for a long time?

First and foremost, don't make him feel ashamed. That'll just make things worse.

If it's new, try to explore what's causing it. Is it just a growth spurt that his bladder hasn't caught up to yet or a recent emotional trauma? If it's something that's been going on for a long time, that's a whole other story. Some kids are just such sound sleepers that they don't wake up to go to the bathroom.

Either way, speak to his doctor, there's a medication called DDAVP that can help stop the issue, there's also little bedwetting alarms that wake the kid up. There's also those products now that are like kiddy Depends or big-kid Pull Ups.

Good luck!! He's not the only kid his age this happens to!!

Did you know, that the experts say that when children do this, that there is a stress-realted issue behind it? When I was a child, my mother died when I was 3...and before it happened I was fully trained, but then after everything happened, I started having mis-haps,caused by all the stress of the situations around me.
I would start out by taking the little guy to the doctor, and see what they say...it could possibly be a health issue...it could also be caused by stress, or just pure laziness. Has he ever been trained? You said your grandson, are his parents around and have they worked with him???
Good luck hon, and I hope that it is more of a mental issue than a pure physical one. Thank you

You should see first why he's doing so..there's a reason for that psychologically speaking..at a age like that and ur grandson still wets the bed then there's something he's afraid of...see his problems, his fears, how is he acting at home, at school...
React now cause the consequences could be nastier than that later on when he's older..

hope i helped u..

I have the similar problem and until about 6 months ago I was changing the bed 4 out of 7 nights for my son,and that was with him wearing pull-ups.We always made him stop having liquids at 7 pm and always made him pee before going to bed but about 6 months ago I went to the Dr with him and talked and the Dr decided to put him on desmopressin acetate nasal spray and since the very first night he has had no accidents!! Try to talk to the Dr and get the medicine and one more thing..I noticed if I talked about it in front of him it hurt his feelings,I know this is aggravating but please for his self esteem let it pass and say nothing.

Well whatever you do dont yell at him or make him feel bad. you can buy a plastic cover for his matress so no more damage is done to it and it is easy to clean. (they also work well if a child has ashma , I used one because of sever ashma attacks when i was younger) A cause for it could be drinking water or and liquid before bed. If it keeps up then talk to his doctor. Just remember it is a normal thing for children.

It's not his fault, he can't help it. Just don't give him anything to drink after 5pm, and "make sure" he goes to the bathroom before he goes to bed. If it doesn't get better then see a Dr. It could be an overactive kidney problem.

do his parents know about that? if not, tell them. if they do, i'd say first ask him about that behaviour. if he can't give you a straightforward answer, see a doctor with him to rule out physiological issues, and if there are none, see a child psychologist. when children as old as that wet the bed, it might be a symptom of trauma they have experienced and that has to be sorted out.

BEAT the snot out of him... kidding! He may have "problems" try a medical doc first and then perhaps a looney psychologist is the recommended approach.

Personally, I'd have a chat with him, tell him it's not normal and don't give him anything to drink 2 hours before bed.
