Well, if it's the same someone else, that makes it easier. If it's different "someone else"-es, then you've got a bit more of a problem. Do you still care deeply about each other? Do you still fundamentally want to be together? Or is this an indication that maybe it's time you went your different ways?
Sometimes people just turn out to not be completely right for each other; they may not hate each other, or go through a painful breakup, sometimes they just wake up one morning and realize it's time for them to look elsewhere. No shame in that, it's part of life.
First step, though, is always to sit down and talk to them about it--why they're thinking about it, why you're thinking about it, and find out if it's just a curiousity issue, and that you'd still like to be together, or if it's more than that.
