A ball can be switched out between holes if it is unfit for play. Now a pro could hit an unlimited number of balls into the water with no limit

There is no limit as to how many golf balls a person, professional or not, may use in one round. However, they must use the same ball from the tee shot until they have holed out. Unless they can legally switch the ball because it has become unplayable.

You can only use one type (model) of ball during a tournament, but you can use as many of that ball as you need to finish the round. You can't borrow balls from your fellow competitors if you run out of balls, even if it's the same kind of ball you were using during your round.

there i no limit to how many balls a player pro or otherwise can carry, but they have to use the same ball they started with from tee to hole unless it is hit into a hazard or out of bounds. they can switch balls in between holes whether it is playable or not, know of a few pros that use a different ball on each hole in a tournament.

think i read and interview with Tigers Caddie Steve telling of the last hole at Pebble beach and he (Tiger) had put one in the water, but he didn't tell him it was the last of six!
so i quess that it's six balls per round!
