HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a precursor to AIDS (aquired immune deficiency syndrome). The virus attacks the immune system, by infecting helper T cells, which effects cell-mediated immunity. The virus takes over these cells and then begins to rapidly multiply using the T cell's DNA. With the immune system heavily compromised, the body is unable to defend against even mild infections of any sort. The direct cause of those who have AIDS is not AIDS itself, but whatever infection or disease is too much for the body to overcome.

The stereotypical symptoms of AIDS include: swollen lymph nodes, severe weight loss, night sweats, frequent infection and purple skin lesions (from a cancer-like condition of the blood).

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) causes AIDS. The virus attacks the immune system and leaves the body vulnerable to a variety of life-threatening infections and cancers. Common bacteria, yeast, parasites, and viruses that ordinarily do not cause serious disease in people with fully functional immune systems can cause fatal illnesses in people with AIDS.
Please see the webpages for more details on HIV / AIDS.

The answer sent prior to this is accurate. In order to keep your body as strong as possible it is important to send it positive thoughts and images. For example, see an angel on every T-cell protecting it and defending it. See other angels cleaning up the virus and carrying it away. Use whatever image works for you to visualize a healthy body. I've also found that eating a diet of as many raw and unprocessed foods as possible is very helpful.
