Start lifting weights to build skeletal muscle. The caloric requirements of muscle are almost twice what adipose (fat) tissue uses. Add a little muscle and fat will start burning away even while you are at rest.

Specifically weight training may be what you really need to kick start your metabolism. The more muscle mass you have the higher metabolism will be. Especially when you combine this with cardio training your daily resting metabolic rate will go up.
Try this workout:
Start of with 10 minutes on a cardio machine then 10 minutes of weight training alternating between the two for one hour. Do a totoal body workout 3 times a week and do a different cardio machine each time.
Also your eating pattern may be getting in the way of a higher metabolism. If you are only eating 2 big meals a day or 3 meals a day your metabolism will slow down to make up for when you are not getting food. You really should be eating every couple of hours, at first it might seem like a lot but you adjust to it and your metabolism speeds up.

1.Get into a regular exercise program. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week.
2. Do aerobic exercise such as walking, biking or using a stair-climbing machine for at least 30 minutes.
3. Incorporate weight lifting or other muscle-building or maintenance programs. The more muscle mass you have, the faster your metabolism.
4. Exercise twice a day if possible. Do your vigorous workout in the morning, and then take a walk after dinner. This way you will continue to burn calories at a higher pace for almost the entire 24 hours.

Well I believe eating protein helps increase your metabolism, or your BMR (baslamic metabolic rate or something like that), in moderation of course. I do not recommend you gorge yourself. Also, weight training helps you by building up your muscles that will continue to burn more calories during the day even when you are sitting.

Increase metabolism by eating several smaller meals per day. The idea is to never let yourself get hungry. One way to accomplish this would be to eat three healthy nutritious meals and eat healthy nutritious snacks in between those meals keeping yourself satisfied throughout the day.
It will be very important that the snacks are healthy, and that the meal sizes are reduced to compensate for the additional calories the snacks provide to prevent weight gain.
I hope this helped!

A lot has to do with what we eat and when...
I agree that a lot of little meals (6) through out the day works, but who has time...I suggest strongly EAT BREAKFEST!!! No matter if its toast or slim fast, that is a HUGE boost. You didnt mention if you workout or not. If you dont walking a lunch time, or when ever will also do it as well. I'm doing this very basic because I dont know what level your at. Eat a lot of fruits and veggies. I have a website I started, its boring, but I'm happy to send ideas and tips to you www.stayfit4life.com and yes its free.

Outside all the obvious answers; cut carbs. When you're on a low carb diet, your body burns stored fat instead of carbohydrates. You'll notice a difference in just a few days. You'll have more energy, feel healthier, and see the pounds melt away. Just do it safely.
