my 2 year old cat is starting to pee on my cloth that I leave laying around the house and last night he pee'd on my comforter. He is potty trained and I clean his box everyday. Does any one know why he is doing this?

for a cat, that is usually a sign of 1 of 2 things - first medically, he could have a unrinary tract infection, so have him checked out by the vet. If he gets a clean bill of health, then he's trying to tell you he's angry about something. Has there been any changes in your life lately? New animal? New boyfriend? Gone more? Something's got him peeved

At about 2 years, cats start to do this as a method of tracking or marking. If he/she is neutered/spayed - they may do this, getting them neutered doesn't always work. The best thing to do it to clean it u with vinegar to kill the smell, and don't leave things you like on the floor. Often times cats get territorial when you bring something new into the house - new person, new baby, new cat, new dof, new couch, seriously, they HATE any change and do things they wouldn't normally do. This is why there are so many 2 year old cats at the animal shelter... people can't handle it - but it's just life with a cat.

I'm with everyone else that suggested taking the cat to the vet. I read somewhere that cats are so fastidious, they hate the idea of peeing someplace outside the box unless the box is gross. Since you're keeping the box clean, he obviously can't hold it. Please take him to the vet. The other possibility is that he's super stressed about changes in the household. Either way, just to be safe, please take him to the vet.

Call your vet. If the cat has never had a problem before and has always used it's box, chances are its' a bladder/kidney infection. Possibly even stones. It's their way of getting your attention and saying "hey, there's something wrong with me and I don't feel well". Call your vet.

He is trying to get your attention and it's the most effective way for your cat to tell you he may have a urinary infection which is causing him pain when he uses his box.

So, off to the vet for a urinalysis and maybe a course of antibiotics.

It could be a behavioral issue and you must first rule out the physical problem.

When a cat pees inappropriately he may be sick. Urinary tract infection, renal problem, etc.. He probably needs to see a vet - immediately if you see him straining.

More likely, this is a "whole" (un-neutered) male cat that is spraying to mark his territory. If so, get him altered & once the hormones get out of his system, the spraying will likely stop.

Your cat could have a blader problem! Or if there is a new cat in the nieghborhood or your house he could be leaveing his scent. Most cats leave thier scents when there's someone or something new around... But i would take him to a vet, just in case! :>

Is is a male or female? Mine was a male and I noticed he started doing that the vet said that he was spraying (marking his territory). He eventually wanted to be an outside cat.

Have the vet check him out. Then keep him locked in the bathroom with the litter box until he uses it.
