i feel like i am hurting the baby if i sleep on my right side now and it seems to be moving when I do turn from side to side at night. Which is the best way for me to sleep without me feeling like I have smashed the baby and he/she is not in there anymore?

Actually the best way for you to sleep is on your left side. There is a huge vein that runs down your right side that carries blood to your baby and your lower body. If you sleep on your right side the blood flow to this vein could be reduced. As for your back that is not great either. It stretches out your stomach.
Of course you are asleep and don't always know how you are sleeping so don't worry about it too much. There will be a time in your pregnancy that you physically won't be able to sleep on your stomach so that problem will be solved for you.

Lay on your back if possible. Or you could put a pillow between your legs and lay on your side for more comfort and see how it goes. You can never really get in the right position when you are pregnant, that's the joys really. I have a book called: Conception, pregnancy and birth by Dr. Miriam Stoppard. Its a great book and tells you every thing that you need to know when you are pregnant. Try and see if your local Library has it in stock and take it out to read you will find some great thing in there. Good luck with baby, hope all goes well.

Although it's best to sleep on your left side, there's no harm in sleeping on your right side. It's not a good idea to sleep on your back once you are 5 months along since the weight can put pressure on your inferior vena cava and make you dizzy. But if you do wake up and find yourself on your stomach or back, don't panic. Just roll over onto your side and go back to sleep. Also, look into getting a body pillow. This has made sleeping on my side easier and more comfortable.

The baby is very well protected in there. If you are comfortable, then the position is fine. When you are no longer comfortable, then find a different position. Laying on your left side with a pillow between your knees is a very good position, but ANY position you are comfortable on is OK.

mamisita is WRONG....there is NO position that you could sleep in that would cut off the circulation to baby! the cord and placenta take care of baby and baby is very well cushioned floating in the amniotic sac.

You need to sleep with a pillow between your legs for one thing it releaves the stress off the hips at nigh. You can sleep how ever you like it wont hurt the baby. But in all reality sleeping on your left side is the best it is easier on the heart and puts less strain to get all the oxygen to the body.

I was a stomach sleeper, my doctor's said that you can stay on your stomach until it finally is no longer comfortable. I still sort of lay on my stomach but use my body pillow along my side to add support so I don't have any pressure on my stomach. You can sleep on either side and your back. They recommend by 24 weeks to try and stay off your back and sleep more on your left side.

For me I find I am better on my back and also on either side. Usually I move to the opposite side I feel the baby moving around on. They tell you to sleep on your left side in stead of your back, because it provides better blood flow to the baby and keeps pressure off your nerves and circulation in your own body.

Sleeping on your left side is best for baby. I felt like I was smashing my baby too. I was a stomach sleeper so needless to say I didn't sleep for months. What I did was bank a bunch of pillows around you. I used like 6, one behind my back(if sleeping on side), one sorta under my belly, one between my legs, 2 under my head and one just in case I needed it.

You aren't smashing your baby, they are well padded but try different pillows to help you out.

Its fine to sleep on your stomach. I'm 7 months pregnant and I still sleep on my stomach...surprisingly. My doctor told me that its bad to sleep on your back, the best way is on your right side. Its normal to feel nervous and its too soon for the baby to be moving a lot yet.

sleeping on your stomach is fine until it becomes uncomfortable for you. I am just over 5 months and am just now getting to the point where I can't do it. Also sleeping on your back is ok up until around the 20th week. This is when the baby is starting to get a little bigger and oxygen can be cut off to the placenta.

you can sleep on your stomach, it's safe. Only when your tummy really grows, it's impossible to sleep on it.

at 2-3 month, any position is fine. the BEST position while pregnant is on your LEFT side. When you in 3rd trimester and bigger, DO NOT sleep on your back, that most likely to cut off circulation to you & the baby, esp. if on a hard surface.
