Hello the distance is 1057 km. I would assume it would take up to 14 hrs by bus.

Source is Turkish General Directorate of Highways.
They have a tool at http://www.kgm.gov.tr/il1.asp which shows the distance between cities.

Oh my dear, the distance can be no more than an overnight bus. Many lines have buses going in that direction. Just go to the nearest external bus depot and ask. Get on the bus late in the evening and you will be in Agri the next morning, not early, but in the morning. The buses are big comfy Mercedes-Benzes with nearly all the comforts of home.

If you speak of the cultural distance, we are talking a century or more. My husband, a Turk, served his two years in the Army in Agri and environs. On a nostalgic trip, we went there--by train and car--about seven or eight years ago. I, a world traveler, who lived in Chengdu, Sichuan province, PRC for a year, was shocked to find such a place in modern Turkey.

A main source of heating fuel was dried dung, to which smoke I am allergic. All in all it was a never forgettable trip. The "hotel" owner was so kind, he went out to purchase new bed linens in honor of our stay.

Though backward in many ways, the people were kind and considerate beyond the telling.

If you get as far as Agri, though, do not fail to go on to Dogabayzit where you will have an unforgettable view of Mount Ararat, thence to Van to view Lake Van which is both heavenly and eerie. Seen many inland lakes in my travels. Not one rivals Lake Van.

And if you get that far, go on to Tatvan, a small town in the northerly direction, where, if you are a meat-eater, you dare not miss the slow-cooked goat by a man named Ahmet. His little cafe is directly across from the main mosque. The goat is hung over slow fires in an 8-foot pit in the floor, and cooked until it is the absolute most delicious morsel on earth.

Get Ahmet to wrap some extra for your forward journey. We did and when we had consumed it, we grieved that we had eaten the best food I can remember in the whole of Turkey.

One of the best meals of my life! I'm near 70.

Try ViaMichelin.com as you can run distances between places but Agri doesn't come up - maybe you can put in somewhere else close to it.
