We see the picture in Jesus' story about the rich man and Lazarus. "In Hades, where he was in constant torture, he looked up and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus by his side." We see that Abraham and Lazarus were in "Hades," which is the Greek word for "abode of the dead. This place had two areas, one for the righteous dead, as we see in Abraham's case, and a place for the wicked dead, as in tha case of the rich man. He was "...suffering in this fire.'" (Luke 16:24c).
In another passage, both Moses and Elijah appear with Jesus at the Mount of Transfiguration. They were not suffering, so they would not have been tormented. (Matthew 17:3)
Further, Jesus spoke of the place of the righteous dead also as Paradise. (Which hardly denotes a place of torment.)
When Jesus mentioned hell, He used the word "Ge Henna," which is "Valley of Ben Hinnom." It was a perpetually burning garbage dump located outside the walls of Jerusalem, and was a vivid picture of the place of torment. It is further described in other places as a place where there is gnashing of teeth, and where the worm doesn't die, nor the fire quenched." (Mark 9:44) In Revelation, it is known as "lake of fire and burning sulfur." (Revelation 19:20)
After Jesus descended to the dead, He took with Him those righteous dead to heaven, where they will someday return to the earth with Him, when He comes and establishes His throne on the earth. (Jude 1:14)
I hope that helps a bit!

My point for this question,hast to do with 'prior to Jesus'. The Lord Jesus Christ existed before man was created. (See John 1). 'We American' may be limited in our vision of Jesus by an addition to God's word; the addition better known as the red letter edition. From Gen. 1:1, thru the end of Malachi, when the bible says Lord (capital L, potential exception, the start of a sentence) it is refering to the Lord; the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore were people like Adam and Noah in 'Hell' because they existed before Jesus; NO.

In catholic school they told us the bible said Jesus spent the 3 days in hell between his death and resurection picking up the old people that died in the old testament, Noah, Adam, etc;
Here in the states no one knows about that though, it's been rewritten to read that they just went straight to heaven or something like that.. it's one of the many discrepancies between christianity and nations - but you very rarely hear about it.
However, yeah, you've heard it right regardless of what other people hear - the rumor that they all go to hell previous to Jesus is passed out in latin american countries, mostly by catholics, and there's a big story about jesus going down there to tell Satan to stay away and that he was taking those souls because they were good and such.

This is not true. Prior to Jesus's death and resurrection, God provided many other ways to get to Heaven (many through sacrifices if you'll recall). Only after Jesus do folks need to go through him to get to Heaven.

according to some sources...(always consider your source, even when reading the bible.)...the individuals that were alive and past away prior to the whole jesus christ episode, were not condemed to hell nor were they priviledged to heaven.
They are said by virgil in dante's INFERNO, to exist in a state that is neither considered heaven nor hell...like some kind of eternal presence that is neither glamourous nor spiteful.
it is an interesting delimma posed by christianity and never actually confronted by them within any of their writings. (to the best of my knowledge.)
As with everything that is likened to intagible beliefs...you have to read many outside sources and garnish your own opinions based upon what you read and choose to believe.

The people proir to Jesus had a chance at gettting into Heaven. If they were righteous and God-loving, they would be in Heaven right now.

The Bible does not say that. Jesus replaced into lifeless, he replaced into contained in the grave (Hades or Sheol) and subconscious as are all others there. The demons are not in hell or the grave, yet people who have been on earth earlier the flood are sure, or in reformatory, and can't act. The scripture at a million Peter 3:18 -20 says: "Why, even Christ died as quickly as consistently correct to sins, a righteous [individual] for unrighteous ones, that he could lead on YOU to God, he being positioned to dying contained in the flesh, yet being made alive contained in the spirit. in this [state] additionally he went his way and preached to the spirits in reformatory, who had as quickly as been disobedient whilst the endurance of God replaced into waiting in Noah’s days, whilst the ark replaced into being built, wherein some human beings, this is, 8 souls, have been carried properly for the duration of the water." Even right here is says he preached to the spirits in reformatory AFTER he replaced into made alive contained in the spirit, or resurrected. As for in spite of is asserted contained in the Talmud, Apostles Creed, Athanasian Creed or e book of Mormon, it is not God's notice the Bible.

If they were righteous, loving, God fearing people using blood sacrifice for their sin, they went to Heaven since this is before Christ. They are in Heaven and I can't wait to meet them!
