Usually maintaining a routine of brushing helps control the fur from flying, but there are diseases that can cause fur loss. Make sure your cat is healthy & sees a vet once a year for a checkup & shots, so you can address this issue with a professional & ease your conscience. Have fun bonding with your pet while you're preening it. Your cat will love you even more.

Excessive shedding is a sign your cat is not in tip-top shape health-wise. Homeopathic veterinarians know that skin and hair problems need to be addressed because they are signs of poor health and may eventually move into the cat's body. Then you will have real health problems.

So I would look to the cat's diet first of all which has been mentioned by another poster.

You MUST get her on a premium food. Most cheapie foods are as much as 2/3 corn, an allergen for many cats and dogs. Premium foods will have meat sources for at least the first two ingredients.

The small animal nutritionist on the staff at the UC Veterinary School also recommends that you choose a single protein source in the food. CA Natural has just chicken and rice. Natural Balance has a venison and pea. They have another I believe that has duck and some carbohyrate. I use the first two with my cats and also a Prairie that is chicken based.

When switching your cat to a new food. Mix up a large container of 3/4 of the old food with 1/4 of the new. Use that mixture for at least a week to ten days. Then you make a mixture of 50% old and 50% new for another week to ten days. Then you make a mixture of 3/4 new to 1/4 old for another period. This is the way you sneak up on a cat as if you just put down a new food she will turn her nose up at it.

This is normal depending on the breed and not much you can do. All I suggest is that you brush regularly or comb what ever the cat will let you do. Hold them on your lap snug and let them play with the brush or comb so they know it won't hurt them. I do this with all my three and when I bring the comb out now they just come running for their turn. I started right from when theey wre babies but most cats will learn to love it once they are introduced to it in a loveable way. Just talk to them as you are brushing them, tell them they look so pretty, or handsome now and you might get surprised at their reaction. Good Luck.

Cats shed a lot in the summer. I used to find fur everywhere in the house especially on the ceiling fans. I brush my cat daily and wipe him down with baby wipes once a week. I see a lot less fur around the house now. Plus, my cat doesn't throw up hairballs anymore since I'm helping him with the excess fur.

hi, i have to cats and they shed like crazy it is because of the sun and if they are long haired or short haired they will shed like crazy. The best thing to do is comb them every day which will get all the loose hair out. It is working for me as the loose hair is getting less and less and the weather is changing. I hope this can help from hannah

Get a brush that will collect the hairs and brush it at least once daily. Make sure your kitty is eating healthy food, and if it's prone to hairballs a bit of petroleum jelly smeared on its mouth will help the hairs to pass. If hair shedding is still a problem, pay a visit to the vet to see if they can offer any help.

Hope this helps!

Sounds like your cat might be stressed over something. That can lead to too much shedding. Brush his or she more often too.
And cats will also shed during change of season and weather change.

I bought a product called "Shed X". You have to put it on their food and the bottle says that it's a taste cats love. It might work for your cats but my cats wouldn't eat their food with it. They are very picky.

Brush daily, and feed premium cat food, or rather a *mixture* of premium cat foods (Science Diet, Eukanuba, Waltham).

Supplement any dry food with some canned food at least once a day.

Brush him/her with a cat comb every night to get rid of the extra hair and to make the coat shiny.
