Kittens nails are like new born babies, they grow at a rapid pace and must be clipped about ever two weeks. This is very easy to do if you don't have fear of snippers. Hold your kitten by the back paws with your inbetween your knees snug but not real tight, if you need too you can also wrap them in a towel and make it snug only to have their front paws available to you. Depending on how dark their nails are you will be able to see a clear area close to the points and just snip off the very tips. Have some one who has done this before show you the first time so you are very aware of how far you can snip down. I have done my three from day one and I always get them when they are in resting mold so they are calm and all three get done one at a time but the same time frame. I give them lots of kisses as I snip each nail and tell them how good they are being as well. I have no problem doing this and as they get older they don't need clipping as often. I never clip the back nails, they might need them for protection in case of an intruder or they get out by some strange chance. Make sure you have a carpet post or some piece of carpet for them to use to scratch, they need this to daw down the points. I use a clipper that would be used on a person I find it alot easier and less costly as well. I hope this has helped you and good luck.

Beacause they haven't had to use them or probaly been taught how to clean them or use a scratching post yet. Baby kitties have very sharp claws and teath, I'm sure it would help keep preditors away if they saw those little needles coming twards them.

Not only sharp nails, but their teeth are like needles. They are like this, because this is the natural scheme of things in cats and also in dogs.

the nails are very thin as they havent grown yet. its the difference between getting stuck with a needle or poked with a pen.

Suppose your kitten reads your question and asks you
"Why do stupid humans stand on two legs??" OR
"Why do stupid humans have such a long Peni$??" OR
"Why do stupid humans have a big bulky and not to mention, ugly
head???"
Then I think you will know your answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably because they're not used to controlling the nails; retracting them yet. Dont clip them while they're small.

They also have some sort of chemical or bacteria in them that can make them very painful and swell up, I'm allergic to it.

my guess it is their defence, they are so little so if they have sharp claws and teeth they can hurt something trying to get them
