I have a really bad fear of flying and just getting on a plane makes me nervous. I have been on several flights before, long and short ones, but each time it gets worse. Does anyone know of anyway that might make it easier for me?

My next flight is in November.

I won't lecture you on the fact that you are more likely to hit the lottery, get struck by lightening, or die in a car crash than die in a plane crash. When you go, make sure you have nothing else to worry about (bills, house, family ect.), make sure you get plenty of rest the night before and that everything that you are taking is ready so that you are not scrambling to get everything together at the last minute. If you are already stressed out, it will not be easy to calm down. When you get on the plane, bring a good book or a magazine or maybe a handheld game or music, basically anything to get your mind off of flying. Try not to sit next to a window. If you do, pull down the shade. Also remember to breath!!! Bring someone along that you know and talk to them. If you can't, strike up a conversation with a complete stranger. You never know, you might make a new friend. If all else fails, have a few drinks, by that point you won't care. For some inspiration watch "French Kiss" with Meg Ryan at least the beginning.

Go take a flight lesson. I get all kinds of flak from those who are afraid to fly when I make this suggestion, but believe it or not, it will work. A great deal of people's fear are the facts that:

A. They don't really understand what is going on (even though many people think they do).

B. They don't understand the strange sounds they hear.

C. Many people are uncomfortable with not being in control. Because you are a passenger and not the pilot, you are not in control over what is happening. My father is the same way when he drives in a car. He can't stand to not be the one in control. As such, he is the worst back seat driver you could ever drive with. He doesn't like not being in control. He's not like this when he flies, but many people are.

You might try traveling with a friend or someone you are comfortable with . Don't fly on an empty stomach . That always seems to make me sick . If you have been flying during daytime hours , you might try to see if you feel better at night . Don't obsess over flying . Just think of it as a way to get from point A to point B. That's really all it is .

Before your next trip in November, call your doctor and explain the situation to him/her. He/she should be able to prescribe you a mild sedative to calm you (or help you to sleep) during the flight. If you don't want to go the drug route, listen to your favorite music to drown out any noise (with earphones), or read an entertaining book. Also, you can strike up a conversation with your seat mates- most people are understandable. Have a safe and relaxing flight.

yes i know if you have a Laptop or something you could probly play on it or something to get your mind off the flight. Or maybe a CD player or MP3 player or something. something that would take your mind off the flight. workes for me all the time.

Yeah, trade places with me and my income to only drive places. Add to that a back and neck injury that makes long periods of travel exhausting. You'd appreciate how an airplane takes a fraction of the time to travel if you were in pain.

There are far fewer deaths by airplane than by automobiles. What you are dealing with is a lack of control.

Wanna trade places? Can I go overseas for you?

I'm not sure how old you are, but if you're over 21, then a few shots in the airport bar should do the trick....certainly did for me.
