Is it how high they score on an IQ test? Their ability to process and retain information? How successful they are? How happy/miserable they are?

IQ tests mean nothing when it comes to actual intellect, it just means how fast you can recognize patterns and complete them. Anyone, even the dumbest child, can complete a pattern once they know how to do it.

Intelligence isn't just how much you know, it's how much you do with what you know. If you don't do anything with your large brain then you're just as dumb as everyone else.

I believe overall intelligence is a combination of IQ, aptitude, and ambition. Wealth alone is not a factor because I know a lot of people who aren't particularly bright, but they are very good at a particular vocation and are generously rewarded financially. Being book smart alone does not qualify because I've met individuals who are highly educated and they lack common sense and can't perform simple tasks such as balancing their own checkbooks or using a computer for basic tasks such as e-mail. Therefore, it is my uninformed opinion that intelligence is defined by numerous attributes, skills, and the ability to synthesize knowledge knowledge to have a successful career and life.

Most dictionaries define "intelligence" as one's capacity for processing information; I think that pretty much nails it.

I used to be a volunteer reading tutor for our state's literacy council. Adults who are generally considered simpletons - those who can't complete a third-grade spelling test or read a newspaper headline - can be astounding students when challenged. And me - a teacher for these folks- I have an IQ of 144 if my last two tests can be believed. I've won awards for my writings, yet I'm a drooling idiot when it comes to intermediate math problems. Who's to say I'm more intelligent than Joe, who's almost able to follow the directions on an oatmeal canister now?

Intelligence is your ability to learn.

I don't believe in IQ tests. Scoring high on one of those just means that you're logical and can handle stress. I agree with Howard Gardner, who defined seven *intelligences*. According to him, intelligence is 'the capacity to solve problems or to fashion products that are valued in one or more cultural setting'. Which means that intelligence is defined differently in different societies, time periods or contexts, and that you can express intelligence in many ways.

To me, intelligence depends on whether you have an open mind or not, if you're able to think beyond the generally accepted *truths* and brave enough to challenge them.

the certainty is, no it is easy to define "sensible". i'm sorry to any genuine believers in IQ tests, yet they're finished bs because of the fact they simply decide you on particular aspects of intelligence. we are all sensible specifically issues, in basic terms because you don't comprehend the thank you to construct a rocket deliver or the thank you to make eggs does no longer recommend you're actually not sensible. somebody with autism isn't stupid because of the fact they won't be able to communicate, because of the fact they could be outstanding at playing an intrument or fixing autos. I did terrible in maximum teachers for the time of highschool, yet i'm going to even admit that i'm super at psychology at present. purely some examples of ways it extremely is impossible to define intelligence. in basic terms concentration on what you're good at. human beings are painfully fallacious while they think of e book smarts are the only element that defines intelligence.
