Why would god have a drunk like Noah take care of such an important task? Wouldn't a god who could perform miracles and change matter and move large object at will, have done a much more efficient job of saving the animals?

If God can use imperfect people, that gives hope to the rest of us, doesn't it? Not as an excuse to deliberately practice sin, but as an encouragement to pick yourself up and try again no matter how badly you screw things up.

Because there's no way this ever happened. I'm not saying there wasn't an ark or a flood. There may have been a flood (but not one that destroyed the world). There may have been a crazy guy who made an ark. But there's no way all the animals could have been loaded onto one boat.
