How many people do you think are really just posers, trying to shock us all and get us to answer their questions...
It would make me sad to think this many people are this horrible!!

1. Some are posers to shock & gross-out readers.
2. Some are real. Frightening, huh?
3. Some may be writers, script writers, comics trying out their material, song writers looking for material. I can see many possibilites for hooks on Country Western songs in some of the answers.
4. For some, it's their only venue to take the platform of hate.
5. What could be done is to create new genres for 'Qs', so that it will flag out keywords that don't fit a genre (i.e. Keywords in your Q would automatically put your Q in the correct genre. I really think there should be a genre for Raunch).

I'd say there are a lot who really are racist and a lot who are really just trying to get attention... and then some who are both. It really is disappointing to see so many racist comments from so many ignorant people. The bigotry I've seen here is worse then any I've actually witnessed in real life, but I live in a pretty open minded community. I wish there was a way to ban people like that from coming here, but they can always just start a new account to continue spreading their hate.

I, too think it is probably mostly for shock value. However- I don't even joke about some things, even though I have a healthy sense of humor. I tend to think that if someone will joke about race, religion, or the opposite sex in a way that even sounds mean-spirited, those thoughts are really in that person's head. Some things cross the line of decency, and these people should be reported. You will be able to distinguish which ones are really sick- because they appear over and over with consistently sick questions. Either ignore or report.

Well I think that they are all racist if they post racist views. Because if you think something like that is funny then you are a racist.
I just wanted to know why Yahoo answers doesn't do anything about it. I posted an answer to a racist question saying I was reporting them. yahoo erased my response and left the racist question. Go figure!

I'm willing to bet about 99% of them would NEVER say to a person's face what they say on here. On here, they're anonymous...in real life, making racist remarks to someone's face could get them in a lot of trouble. They're probably really just as racist in real life as they are online, but they don't act on it because they're cowards.

The VAST majority of us are good, kind, gentle, peaceful, decent, helpful, law-abiding citizens of our societies. We only let off steam here for shock value.

Most of the people are Yahoo are decent enough. The ones who come off as idiots are seeking attention....or maybe they're just idiots.

It is both - they pretend to give shock value - but in fact racism is on the rise... so is intolerance...
