Absolutely. Have you always had this fear or have you been in an accident that has scared you? Phone a driving school, ask them. Maybe take a few more driving lessons with a pro and they can help you with where your fear is and how to overcome them.

One thing you didn't mention is if you ever have driven. Did you drive at one time, and now can't, or have you never driven? That makes a big difference.
You can have phobias about almost anything. What you need to ask yourself is what is driving your phobia (pun intended). Were you in a bad car accident, or was a family member or friend in an accident? If that's the case, you'll probably need to seek professional therapy to get past that. If your fear doesn't seem to be some dark psychological problem, then you'll need to make a decision: how important is it to you to drive? Plenty of people don't, you know. I live in the suburbs, so I have no options, but plenty of people I know who live in the city don't even own cars-not that they're afraid to drive, but there isn't much reason to own a car when there's so much public transportation available. But, if you have to keep asking people to drive you around, it isn't fair to them or very convenient for you. Maybe a good friend could help you. She could ride with you, then take the wheel when you didn't feel comfortable anymore. Just go a little bit further every day, and see how it goes.

Good luck! I hope you can work through your issue.

I have been driving for 13 years now and never had a problem, matter of fact, I enjoy driving and insist on driving in most situations. Well, a few years ago, I had my first anxiety attack in a car and had a phobia as well. I couldn't get in a car without having one. I would have to pull over on the side of the road and get out of the car for like 10 minutes. It was so weird and scary. I went to the Dr. and he prescribed me xanex (not saying you should run out and get those, they are very addictive) and that helped a lot. I took a few months, but i conquered it by making myself deal with it and facing it. Now, I have no problems and am back to driving normally. You have to drive and conquer it. Talk to your Dr. about it. They will be able to prescribe you something to calm you down. I know a lot of people aren't in to taking meds, but in some cases, that is all that it takes to help a stressfull situation. It worked for me.

People can have phobias about pretty well anything. Like any phobias you can have a go at dealing with it by (1) taking time out each day for physical and mental relaxation, (2) forcing yourself to face your phobia frequently ("flooding") until you get used to it, or (3) as a last resort (but probably pretty effective) have a few sessions with a hypnotherapist.

most definately..!
the stats on car accidents involving deaths is high!
i myself do not drive and part of it is because i am too scared to operate a 1 ton machine of metal that can clock it up to over 150 kms per hour
of course you can be afraid to drive
if you do want to drive, try some laps at a go cart track, gives you the feeling of being in control

well, i don't know. But i'm sure it can be overcome. I am scared to death to drive stick shifts, by hubby has been trying to get me to learn but i get freaked out big time whenever he mentions it. the last time i tried to drive his truck (its a stick shift) i got so scared and upset when i was in traffic that i vowed to never drive his truck again. Pray when you get scared and freeze up, God will help you not be afraid and he will protect you while you are driving, he has always kept me safe while driving.
