I am going to MEPS this weekend and am going to try to get an MOS job hopefully as an air traffic controller. or any other related field. I have the college and credential that i need, however i just found out that there is an extensive physical for being in the aeronautical field. can someone possibly tell me more than that? I heard it from my recruiter and all, i just want to hear it from someone that knows more about it first hand or someone that has known someone first hand, or actually anyone that knows about it. I would also like to know about the physical, where i get the physical after MEPS and just about anything about it. please be descriptive. if you know of any links feel free to add them. are the jobs in the aeronautical field limited to this extensive physical? what else do they test for? do they test the mentality of a canditate as well as the physicality? is there anything i can do to study for those tests if there are any? and add anything else that may be of help

The physical examination requirements for an air traffic controller are the same as that for any aircrew member. You will recieve a flight physical before you are offered the school, or position training, upon passing and being assigned you will recieve a flight physical every year in your "birth quarter". That is any time in the two months prior and the month of your birth. It is not a major hurdle if you are in good health. Eyes, (depth perception, color blindness and the "Puff test", cardio, hearing, blood work etc. There are a couple of versions of the physical depending upon your specific job.
As a crew chief I take the class 2 physical, every five years I do the "long" version and in between a "shorth version".

You will also have to be cautious about "self medicating" i.e. cold meds etc. The certain drugs would cause you to be temporarily "unqualified" until you are finished taking them.

For more information I would ask a "flight surgeon".

Don't know if this will help, but I was in the Naval Nuclear power field. There was a physical that was little more than establishing that I wasn't color-blind. The main physical should take care of the rest. Expect to get screened for drugs and take a breathalyzer test, too. As for the mental, there is the ASVAB, but if you have a college degree, I wouldn't worry about it. There might be some additional tests for your MOS, as well.

My advice- just go and do what they tell you to, don't stress, and after they are done testing, see what you get offered. Still bring up the MOS you want if not offered, too. Good luck to you.

bypass army! i am going to't stress that adequate. in case you could't get into the Air stress (which replaced into my first selection) i could recommend you bypass Blue, army Blue. and under no circumstances merely because i'm previous army, yet because i recognize from my own own adventure that the army will take batter care of you than the Marines, or the military (Sorry devil dogs, i appreciate you yet you recognize i'm acceptable) merely ask some ol' SaltDogs and they are going to allow you to recognize an similar ingredient. a probability keep your MOS of furnish, yet contained in the army you'd be a SH or SK (save Keeper) score. that's cake duty! and also you'll make rank.

Under provisions of Army Regulation 95-2, all personnel certified as a control tower operator, must have a current flight physical. (Chapter 4)

It sounds like you are referring to a flight physical.....

That is only given to people that work within the aircraft (pilots, gunners, engineers). As ATC you shouldnt have to worry about it.
