They're both loyal I would say, but Dog's are dependent which makes it seem as if they are "more" loyal.
For instance, a dog may come to their owners defense when they see something they do not like approaching.
Whereas a cat will get gone.
But cats and dogs are in similar boats. I look at it like this a dog is like your kid.. hes going to follow you, and need you all the time. They want attention and thats not a bad thing.
A cat is more like a freind, it doesnt come to you all the time and it won't act like it needs you..
They're both great pets!

Dogs are neither "stupid" nor "dependent" as many have asserted, and if you want to own an animal you owe it to youself AND the animal to find out more about them than simply your own ignorant opinion.
Dogs are decended from wild wolves and as such are "pack animals," that is they live, hunt, survive and die as integral members of the "pack." Every instinct they possess is geared towards the "pack." They will accept almost any position, any abuse from the pack in order to have a place within it. It is not dumb nor dependency, it is an instinct for mutual survival. They will, almost without thought, give thier very lives to protect the survival of the "pack" and its members. That is the key reason that they were the first and have always been, the most popular human-domesticated animal.
When you own a dog, you, your partner and your family become that dog's "pack." If you read up on dogs (and wolves) you will answer a LOT of questions about how and why they do the things they do.
Cats on the other hand are mostly solitary creatures. They live alone, they hunt alone, they breed alone. They will be much more "selfish" because their instinct is simply to take care of themselves first. A male cat like a male lion will kill all the offspring of another male if it wants to breed with the female. A dog won't, its instinct is automatically to protect ALL members of the "pack!" If a criminal breaks into your house, the cat will go for the window, the dog will go for the throat!
Its not the cat's fault, its Mother Nature's, its just the cat's instinct. The cat has no interest in pleasing you, the dog does. That is one of the main reasons it is so much easier to train a dog than a cat. It actually has nothing to do with their intelligence.
While many dogs and breeds, especially as the result of too much interbreeding, can be "dumb as sticks," in the wild, the wolf (great, great, great grandaddy of the dog) has much more native intelligence than almost any breed of cat. In fact it is one of the most intelligent animals around.

dogs. they are way more loyal, definitely. they don't say "a cat is a man's best friend" do they? nope, don't think so. dogs love to be with you, they love to play, and they protect you. if you where trouble, what would a cat do? meow? whoa, scary cat, I'm so scared!!! stupid cats! a dog on the other hand will stand in front of you, growl, show his scary teeth, and rip whatever is out there to pieces. go dogs!

Loyalty means to stay faithfull by your side. Cats are creatures that weigh their life over anything else. Its in their instinct to protect themselves in ANY danger even it its their offsprings.
In my humble opinion I dont think Cats per-se can be Loyal.
Oh the other hand there are SCORES of stories and real incidents where dogs save their owners' lives or stay near the grave where the owner was burried. That my friend is Loyalty.....

Mastiffs could be an outstanding determination right here - and there are a number of breeds obtainable to get precisely the temperament you're after. individually i've got continuously needed an English Mastiff, and plan on it sooner or later, so i've got completed a ton of learn on them over the years. they're very unswerving canines, with a shielding, yet not extraordinarily aggressive, character. they could be surprisingly lazy indoors, yet like countless canines, they appreciate an outstanding walk/sprint each and every from time to time. The laziness in simple terms facilitates save their foodstuff intake down, that's continuously a plus!

Both. But it depends on the animal and person. Everyone, including animals has an individual personality. My kitten follows me everywhere like a puppy would.
