I'm a 26 y/o lawyer and recently (about a month) started dating a 30 y/o teacher...granted he seems to be very mature and over the BS games. We're still in the getting to know each other stages but everything is going good and we communicate on a daily basis now, at his initiation (i've been burned so many times that I am NOT above being very cautious at first). Anyways, I have a wedding (reception) coming up the beginning of September and wondering what the protocol would be on asking him to attend with me? Also we are both avid football fans and my family has season tickets of our local NFL team and i'd love to invite him to that as well. He just seems like such an amazing catch and I don't want to screw it up prematurely...HELP!

Try the NFL game first. If all goes well mention the wedding. You were looking for a date anyway. Be sure you tell the people throwing the party to expect that you will bring a guest, those things are expensive and it's not great to be surprised that way.

I'd invite him to a football game now, see what his reaction is, then maybe more games later. Wait a bit on the wedding (a little closer to the reception date), though. I'm no expert but I think a wedding invite might be a bit frightening for a guy.

Mention the wedding first and see how he reacts... you can causally say that were thinking about going stag but if he would like to join you he is welcome...with no pressure...if he says he doesn't feel comfortable then you know to take it real slow with him, if he is up for it than great... if he freaks then you know he is not for you!

If he says he would like to go to the wedding then after maybe a few days later tell him about the football tkts... you may want to hold out on that to be sure he isn't just saying yes to the wedding because of the football.

Just ask him to go. I don't see problem with going to the wedding reception. As far as the NFL tickets, if he is a football fan he might just totally fall in love with you. Good luck and enjoy the relationship!!

i was kind of in the same situation. i had, also a wedding reception to attend to, and although we were only dating for about 3 months, he said that he would go with me. he didn't seem like the type to dress up nicely, but he did and he looked really great. so in your case, something that would help is ask him if he wouldn't mind going to a wedding reception with you. and about the football thing... if both of you love football... he'll go and didn't be shy to ask him. how else are you going to get your relationship moving forward??

Ask him to both. You're overthinking it. Wedding receptions are just parties..and you're dating, so that's not a problem. And the football thing is a no-brainer. You get a chance to spend a nice day together on a level playing field (pardon the pun).

Football at this stage O.K. Wedding...not O.K. yet. It's too soon and it will look like you want to get serious...even if you do you can't scare dude with commitment yet. after about 3 mo's of steady dating you could ask him to a wedding.
