what is the purpose of the human body going unconscious during something like a car accident or somekind of blow to the head

to help save you from either mental or physical pain

i was in a car accident and broke 1/2 my body and almost died
and i went unconsious and dont remember the helicopter ride to the hospital.

it saved me a lot of pain and suffering i think because my body was SO injured.

It shuts down your mind to focus energy on other crisis.
