So according to someone's logic that I heard, anyone born on US soil should not be a citizen until the parents provide proof of legal resedency or citizenship. Your opinion? I disagree, if born on American soil, you are an American citizen.

sealRborders - 20 years you say, if I recall in the early 1900 irish immigrants were doing this too, having kids in america while they were illegal, oh but that's ok. So if I were illegal, just because i'm Irish i'm cool with you right. You're ignorant really.

I will leave it to the Supreme Court to interpret the Constitution. They have specifically reserved the question of whether illegal immigrant children born here are citizens.
However, I think that as a matter of IMMIGRATION law, regardless of status of the child, people should only be allowed to bring in family above other quotas if they are both a citizen and had at least one citizen or unqualified permanent resident parent here at the time they were born.
Most countries are stricter on this point, and courts routinely interpret laws not to allow 'gaming' of that law.

Anyone born here should definitely be a U.S. citizen regardless of parents status. Nobody else has to be approved when they are born, that would be utterly stupid. How the hell would a baby be able to stand up to those guidlines. Its not a childs fault what the parents have done.

First of all that is the law. Second, it's been misapplied. Third, it will be that way again.
The 14th amendment say 'And Subject to the Jurisdiciton Thereof' which means unless the parents are citizens, the child is not a citizen.
Now your a legal authority to interpret the constitution too?

i think they should stop making these illegals babies citizens.if the parents go thur the steps to become citizens, that should go for the kid too. if they are illegal, and when they get deported, take it with you.god knows, the taxpayers had to pay for it to be born, why should we have to support it for the rest of its life too.why do you think, they come over here in their nineth month, and show up at a hospital.my husband said they should ask them, how far apart are your pains, load them up in the back of a truck, drive as fast as they can, dump them over the border, and drive off.

they should banish that from the law. so many people come here to have children believing they are less likely to be deported, if their children born here didn't have automatic citizenship, then coming here illegally may not be so attractive
