I know exactly what you mean! HFCS is a terrible plight on American Society. And what gets me is that people think if they switch to diet foods and diet soda that they will help themselves lose weight. But in reality, that HFCS is preventing any weight loss from occuring. It's what I've always called the "sugar that sticks".
I stopped drinking soda, that was the only change I made, no more or less exercise, no other diet changes, and within 3 months I'd dropped 18 lbs!!!!
American's should be educated about HFCS and how it's harming our bodies and causing the obesity epidemic across not only our nation, but across the globe!

I'm kinda wondering why everyone thinks high fructose corn syrup is so bad for you.Regular table sugar (sucrose) is far worse.Fructose is merely the chemical name for fruit sugar.Do you eat fruit? Then you consume fructose all of the time.
It sounds like a big scary name but it's not bad for you.
And any sugar can be converted to fat by insulin. You're getting some faulty information. And how in the world do you outlaw high fructose corn syrup.Do you go to jail in these countries if you're caught with it.
And the number one reason for obesity is ignorance and laziness.Just don't buy products that contain it as should anyone else who thinks it's bad for you. Most products that have it added are junk foods anyway full of sugars, colors and artificial flavors.
Most of your information in your question regarding sugar and its processing is wrong!
Please come back and list the countries that it's illegal in.Then sort out the countries who base most of their commerce on sugar or pure cane. The pancreas is involved in the digestion of virtually everything as is your liver.
That's where the digestive enzymes come from such as bile and pancreatin as well as a wealth of others.Want to give these organs a break?Don't ingest anything.
Or just choose to eat healthy foods.Your basing this whole argument on a little article that makes references to a few studies but doesn't clarify which parts of the statements are based on which studies nor does it make any references to control groups or peer review.
I guess I should stop eating fruit because if I tend to believe one silly article the placebo effesct may get me.The article even claims that fructose isn't natural. It's the sugar that fruits produce for crying out loud.Table sugar isn't the least bit natural and has to be passed over adsorbent charcoal to remove the molasses.
I had to come back.I don't work for any related industry at all.The problem is that too many people believe what they read just because there's a reference to a university.
If the people who wrote this article wanted to inform everyone accurately there would be a link to the published results of these studies.
I could start a new diet fad and only study people who've had gastric bypass and say that individuals have lost hundreds of pounds on it.You have to know how to sort through the BS in anything that you read.Laws dictate more about what you include in such articles than what you leave out.

I agree with you. HFCS is not used in Europe or Mexico. I had a Coke with sugar on the label, so I know. Corn syrup is very bad for you. I don't know why joecseko is defending it. Maybe he works for the people who put it in the food. I also read on several sites that it is not processed by the pancreas but the liver instead. Anyways, I avoid it at all costs and feel very healthy!

Yes, it's appalling, but when you crave a Pepsi or some icecream, you don't think (or care) about the high fructose corn syrup. Sad, but true. Maybe if someone wrote a book like Eric Schlosser or did a documentary like Morgan Spurlock people would be more aware of the health risks associated with these ingredients.

I avoid it as much as possible. It's amazing how many things contain it. It is frustrating, I know. Fortunately, there are starting to be more alternatives. Organic foods are often sweetened with sugar or other natural sweeteners. My husband recently found an organic ketchup with no HFCS. The more we refuse to buy products that contain it, the more they will offer us alternatives.

High fructose corn syrup isn't taxed like sugar is. That is the same problem we have with ethanol. Ethanol made from sugar is a lot easier to process, but with the high taxes we have in place (to protect our farms, since we can grow corn here, but not sugar very easily) we have to try to process corn into ethanol.

I care and avoid HFCS like the plague.
There are brands out there that don't have it. So look for what you do want instead of looking for what you don't want.

There is a great episode of Boston Legal that addresses this issue. It is amazing how moral and ethical standards are so often disregarded in the name of the all mighty dollar.

yes i am upset with the amount of sugar in all of the food too
that is why i try to eat organic, unprocessed, natural whole foods.
i know what it is, i know whats in it, and i dont get all of the chemcials, additives and perservatives.
Its a shame that so many people are mis-informed about the food they are putting in their bodies....
