He doesnt see the right things you do, he only sees the wrong things you've done, what do you do?

Try catching him doing things right.

Imagine if he only caught you doing things right and praised you for them. You'd probably do more things right to receive the praise, right?

Parents are the same way. We all, whether we're kids or parents, need attention. If we don't get it the good way, we'll do bad things to get it--but, we've got to have it.

Try to catch everything he does that indicates he loves you. Even if it's a duty kind of thing, and thank him for it, or praise him for it. Find the things in him you admire, and let him know you admire them. Watch him change.

When anyone (even fathers) puts anyone else down, it's because s(he) feels inferior and, only, by making someone else feel inferior can they feel superior.

If you can help him to feel better about himself, he'll begin to help you feel better about yourself. Set the example for him. Not just once or twice but, consistently. Make it a never-ending habit. It works miracles.

Good luck to you.

It's tough when you're a teenager, I'm not anymore but I was once and get what you're saying.

The challenge is that you are becoming your own person with your own mind and able to make your own decisions but parents want to protect their kids and help them not make the same mistakes they made.

My Dad and I did not get a long at all when I was a teen but later on when I had my own daughter I started to get why he was the way he was.

He likely doesn't realize that you feel he only sees your mistakes. He notices everything you do, he just comments on your mistakes because he likely feels he is trying to help you avoid them in future.

The challenge is how he delivers his message, parents don't always realize how their message is delivered or received but they typically mean well.

Have you tried talking to him about how you feel? If he isn't open to that then maybe you can try to see things from his perspective. That doesn't mean you have to agree with him, it just means you can see where he's coming from. Then maybe it will be easier for you to let some things slide and not take them so hard when you know he's trying to help not hurt.

I had a sucky father figure too, so did my husband, and tons of others out there. As parents now, we just try to do everything the opposite of what they would have done. Unfortunately, he's probably being the father to you that his father was to him. His problem, not yours.

Don't be like him. Get your own life and try not to let him get you down. Maybe somewhere down the road he'll see what a jerk he's been. Or that is just his way of trying to get you to push a little harder and accomplish more than what he did with his life.

not much you can do to make him notice the good things.only thing you can do is you remember the good things you do,be proud of your self ,do things that make you happy.i no its hard having a parent thinking your worse than you actully are but the important thing you need to remember is your better than him and you dont need him to notice the good things to make you happy.when he is mad for you doing something wrong just let it go over your head, try not to take it to heart.good luck
