Whether or not the alcohol shows up in your test will depend on how much you drink. As a rule of thumb, an average person can eliminate 0.5 oz (15 ml) of alcohol per hour. So, it would take approximately one hour to eliminate the alcohol from a 12 oz (355 ml) can of beer.

Also remember that if this is a general blood assay and not a test specifically for alcohol, your liver enzyme count will be increased following a night of drinking. That will show up in a blood test that includes liver function.

Hey Newman,

Well, it will depend on how much and when. If you were to have a glass or two of wine at 6pm and the test is at 10am the next morning, the chances are VERY slim.

You go to a bachlorette party and get home at 3am and the test is at the same time, you are busted!

Hope you ain't in trouble!

Being a former OTR truck driver, the rule is 12 hours with no alcohol before you can drive that vehicle. So it's still in the system but for legal limits...it a 12 hour rule.

An "average" body will process one alcoholic drink every hour so do the math... one drink equals 12 oz beer, one ounce liquor or 8 oz wine.

This has nothing to do with the dehydration your body will have.
