I am a Christian and I love God, I just don't understand how anyone can worship the ultimate evil.

The "devil-worshippers" I have known of all were maladjusted geeks with black fingernail polish trying to make themselves scary. Some of them are do-nothing, and some do hateful things to animals, and none of them are following any sort of actual religion with set rites and rituals other than what someone wrote down in a spiral notebook.

Actual "Satanists" follow a religion created in the 1960s by another maladjusted geek, Anton LeVay, which basically promotes selfishness as its main religious belief. It's outlined in a paperback book called "The Satanic Bible" which is available for ridicule at any Barnes and Noble for about 5 bucks.

Don't be afraid of them - they're powerless. The best way to banish any devil-worshipper or Satanist is a big old horselaugh right in their faces. They can't stand not being feared.

Also, please don't confuse Pagans and Wiccans/Witches with either devil worship or Satanism. None of that here.

ok, here goes.

"devil worship" as the christian church defines it is nonexistant for all practical reasons. there are of course those who worship the christian devil, but i don't call these devil worshippers, i call these people christians since they believe in god, jesus, and all that jazz. they just choose to worship the fallen angel.

the largest group affiliated with the devil practices what most consider lavey satanism. here satan is not worshipped, he's allegorical. he represents everything that christianity tells us is wrong, but what logic tells us cannot be wrong. satanism resolves this dilema. it presents the left hand path, the road opposite christianity's. most satanists are atheists or believe in something they cannot define.

so, what is this most common form of satanism teach?

no human or animal sacrifice, first of all. that's a christian myth and i'm angry every time i hear it.

well, it teaches respect, first of all. respect for everyone living, including animals. satanists are not supposed to harm children or kill animals (only for food or hide).
it also teaches that humility is for the weak, and it is frowned upon. there is no turn the other cheek here, we are to hurt our enemies more then they hurt us so they will respect us.

satanists don't believe in hell, that's a christian concept, and satanism is not a christian religion. it's more of a philosophy.

there are also many who don't officially belong to the church of satan, but who still are satanists.
some have been living this way all their lives and don't feel the need to belong to a church, or they just don't want to give the bastards $200 for that shiney red card.
one word of caution: satanists vary across the board, and while i cannot speak for the church, i can speak for my own version.

if you're still interested in learning about satanism, go to churchofsatan.com, or the wikipedia article
you can find many interesting things in both places.

I don't practice satanism but I have read about it. There are some satanist that have changed the original religion and actually see satan as a god. This was not the idea of the original Church of Satan that was founded by Anton Levey and Alestier Crowley.

Satanists do not worship satan but the concept of satan. In other words power, money, lust, greed...etc. the things Christians see as being caused by Satan. Believe it or not the practices are very similar to wicca. They just don't use the wiccan rede of harm none.

They believe in helping themselves by any means necessary. They believe in hurting and manipulating people if it means getting what they want. There is no concept of right or wrong. The strong survive, the powerful survive, the one willing to do what it takes to get what they want will survive.

Anton LaVey (sp) and Alester Crowley are the ones that started the Church of Satan. And eventually brought into mainstream religion. I you want to learn of the religion search there names or search the Church of Satan.

As someone above said, most Satanists don't worship the devil. They believe in self-elevation and self-indulgence. In fact true Satanism is actually closer to atheism and humanism.

The ones who do actually worship a devil are generally not regarded as true Satanists and the vast majority of the Satanic community won't have anything to do with them. The ones who do that do it to be cool and piss off authority figures, to rebell.

As mentioned by others, there's a number of varieties. Some are the nutso horror-movie types, some are self-interested, etc. There's even some who take a more Gnostic-type approach, seeing Satan as a Prometheus-type of figure, bringing wisdom and knowledge (since, according to their view, God kept Adam & Eve in the dark about things, a la the apple.)

I've not seen anyone on this board advocate devil worship, except in jest.

I have, however, repeatedly seen christians intolerantly accuse people of other religions of worshipping the devil. It's a bold faced lie of course, but christianity simply is intolerant of other faiths, and blames them all on their boogeyman called "satan"

Real Satanists do not actually worship the Devil. Devil worship is, for the most part, the domain of angsty teens.

I think you have to murder a Christian in order to become a member. I heard a Cherokee Indian, who got out of prison, because he did HIS muder at age 15, as a boy, and because he was just a boy, he was released from prison after age 21. But, Satanists believe that Satan is THE SUPREME god, and will defeat Jesus Christ, HA!, in the last day.

King James Version (KJV)

Revelation 21:8 "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

People are worshipping Satan and doesn't even realize it. Notice what the Bible says:

2 Corinthians 4:4 " 4 among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through. "

If people are really worshipping Satan... you can assume one of two things.

a) they don't really believe in a God and are having "fun" deviating from the norm
or
b) they believe that their sins are too numerous to atone for or that they don't mind sinning in the first place...

I agree though. Satan is supposed to be a manifestation of everything that inspires evil... Satan is different to everyone. Satan to me, for example, is a purple dinosaur named Barney with a completely perfect world devoid of pain... *teletubbies... shudders* The Satan that hardcore religious fanatics believe in is something I would want to hang out with. Or at least have a serious talk to...
