My dog is 1 year old and is trained to go on wee wee pads. I have never had a problem with her until I brought home a new puppy a week ago. She has been peeing anywhere now as if she were the new pup. I'm thinking she may be doing this out of jealousy that there is a new dog in the house. Does this mean I have to retrain her? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, you are going to have to retrain her. She is jealous of the new puppy. Don't scold her or get mad at her. Spend just as much time with her as you did before the new puppy. She may be feeling neglected. If she was housebroken once it won't take as long this time with the extra love and attention. And if it keeps up make certain that she doesn't have a bladder problem and is having accidents.

Yes, you're going to have to retrain her. It might be jealousy. Or, maybe your dog sees the puppy going inside and thinks she's had the wrong idea all along and the puppy has it right. It won't be so bad to retrain her if you're training them both at the same time.

There is a lot of debate as to whether training a dog on wee wee pads is really housebreaking them. Technically speaking, a dog is housebroken if he doesn't go to the bathroom in the house. Since the wee wee pads are in the house, and the dog goes on the wee wee pads, is it really housebroken?

Housebreaking works because dogs don't soil in their living area. Once they have a clear understanding of where their pooping area is and where their separate living area is, they understand housebreaking. But with wee wee pads, that line is kind of fuzzy. Don't be upset if your dog forgets her housebreaking again later.

Good luck, and congrats on your new puppy!

It could be jealousy or simply the new puppy isn't housebroken yet and goes on the floor. The other dog walks up, smells her scent, and then tries to cover it up. The older dog is fairly young, so I would think that she might break the habit once the other dog is trained on the pads. However, I am curious if these pads are like litter boxes and cats. Once one animal uses it the other(s) refuse to go near it (there by causing your current problem). Any reason they're not trained to go outside? Are you in the city or something?

Besides all the good advice above, something else that could be causing the problem is a bladder or urinary tract infection.watch for possible small amounts of blood in the urine. When my Lab had a bladder infection one of the main things I noticed, was that she would squat the second I got her out the door, she is usually a sniffer and takes a while to go.So if you notice any blood,or her behavior seems odd when you do take her out,you should probably consult your vet.

It sounds as if your dog is marking her territory.

Yes it means you have to retrain your dog. I'd personally use a system of rewards.
