$1000 / 30 Days is $33/day.
Depending on how you plan to spend money, about $33 a day should be plenty, if all you are buying is the occasional treats and soft drinks and trinkets.
If you are planning some serious outings to nightclubs or silly things like that (I assume 18 is the legal age in most countries) then by the time you add drinks, cover charges, taxis etc. you may be well past your planned amount.
If you are planning to do serious souvenir shopping - you know, the $50 carved monkeys, or $60 leather vests - upscale! - or treating your host families to dinner at fancy restaurants, then you should adjust your plans or budget accordingly.
I don't know what things cost down there, but assume that at the top end - the "live like an American" lifestyle - things cost as much or more than here. If you want to go cheap, then the el cheapo stuff is far less than here.
Also are you planning to go see museums, tourist attractions (you know, the tours of Mayan ruins kind of thing?). If so, have you figured that into your budget? I don't know what they cost, but I'm told in Mexico they do not pass up opportunities to soak the gringos. I assume it's the same down there...

One thing to keep in mind (thinking about Guatemala) is that there are a lot of things to do that are free, but then some that cost money, and unfortunately those things are not always cheep. If you plan on taking tours (volcano climbs, museums, ruins), they can add up quick. For snacks and gifts, you are probably set. Though the touristy shops are a bit high, with a little price shopping, you can get by very cheaply.

Well, it all depends on where you go and on what you spend. Usually in touristic places in Nicaragua (well, i guess also in other countries) the costs and prices for people that arent from Nicaragua are higher than the local ones, so if you are doing something check out the International Tourist prices before. In Nicaragua most places accept dollars, but also remember to change some money to Cordobas, the exact rate is $1 = C$17.66. Hey, good luck in your trip!!

Yeah, If you have all that paid of it should be enough, although Costa Rica is pretty expensive, Guatemala is cheaper than El Salvador too, and Nicaragua is pretty cheap aswell, so yeah you should be fine!
If you have any questions let me know

People think that things cost less but they don't in some since they cost more so if you plan on doing a lot of extras and a lot of shopping then I would take more. one dollar is like10.9 pesos but a soda cost 25 pesos so think about that and have fun.
