We donated our car to charity, and received a tax break.

The car was at the dealers needing repair. We made the arrangements through donationline.com and never had to touch the car again. So easy and helped someone out. The charity received $1800.

You need to do a bill of sale from you to them that states the car is being sold "as-is" with no warranty stated or implied. It also needs to state that you are being released of liability from the vehicle. Date it and have it state who you are and who the buyer is, and have both of you sign it. You get one original copy and they get one original copy (so make two). Otherwise, if something happens, like if they fixed the car and someone stole it & went on a dangerous driving spree, you can still be held liable by the state, but if you have that original signed document, then it proves you sold/gave the car away and you can't be held liable from the date of the bill of sale on.
