I want to make a romantic fondue dinner. Does anybody have any good ideas of what to serve? If so, do you have recipes? Also, are there any suggestions to make this a success?

Is this ever a nice gesture on your part - a romantic fondue - awwww
When we fondue in oil we just buy some steaks, chicken breasts, shrimp and cook those up in the oil. we use sauces that you can buy ie. bbq sauce, seafood sauce, plum sauce etc. another nice addition in chopped up peanuts to roll the meat in after its been cooked.
I would serve a light dessert such as a sherbert ice cream. A salad to munch on while meat is cooking is also recommended.
Good luck, have fun, be careful!

We just watched a highlight of Switzerland on the Travel channel - talked about fondue.

Definitely several types of cheeses for the fondue.
Also types of bread broken into chunks, along with cubed chicken/turkey.
Dipping into a chocolate sauce is fun, but not for dinner.

A light wine to go with the cheeses

There are many different types of fondue. Chocolate, Cheese or Oil. Chocolate is good for after dinner, Cheese is good for before dinner and Oil is a good dinner fondue. Breast of Chicken, beef (must be tender) or shrimp.

Fondue with Tequila:
INGREDIENTS:
6 tablespoons butter
1 clove garlic, minced
2 small onions, chopped
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 avocado, peeled and pitted
1/2 cup cream
1 cup milk
3 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons tequila
1/2 cup crumbled cotija cheese
1 pinch salt and pepper to taste

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DIRECTIONS:
Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onions, and cook until tender, stirring occasionally. Add the garlic, and cook for about a minute. Whisk in the flour with a fork so no lumps form. Cook and stir with the fork until browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Place the avocado into a blender or food processor, and pour in the milk, cream, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Puree until smooth. Pour into a heat proof bowl or casserole dish, and stir in the onion and garlic mixture.
Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, or until thickened. Stir in the tequila and cheese, and return to the oven for about 5 minutes to melt the cheese. Serve with chunks of your favorite bread.

You can serve any kind of vegetable that can be cut into large pieces (you wouldn't want to lose anything in the cheese sauce!) Just steam them so they keep their color. I like cauliflower and brocolli maybe even baby carrots- but they take longer to steam. Get a nice crusty artisan bread and cut that up into big hunks for dipping too, baby sweet pickles are suprisingly good with cheese sauce too. Get whatever meat floats your boat- a nice polska kielbasa is a good choice because you just have to heat it through and slice it up.
For the cheese sauce I'd melt about 3 cups of shredded cheese coated with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch(get the good stuff like havarti or provolone or a smoked cheddar, and toss it to coat with the cornstarch) into about a cup to 1 1/2 cups of white wine (one you'll serve with dinner) and a squeeze of lemon juice (to keep it from being too stringy. Melt it slowly or it might separate. Good luck!
