If the woman you are choosing cares more about the ring & impressing people than she does about what comes from your heart, then I'd rethink the whole marraige thing.
Pick a price, be it $100 or $1,000. Talk to a jeweler & have him pull all the rings in that price range. Pop the question. Take the gal to the jeweler and let her choose. Everybody wins!
Ps. Does your ID indicate what you do/play?

Throw away the old rules of thumb that says you should spend 2 months salary or whatever. Those things are NOT important to most women. My fiance surprised me with an engagement ring and I would have never picked it out myself. But I absolultely love it!!! Truly, whatever you can afford and whatever comes from your heart should be more than enough to make her melt!
Just don't go broke trying to buy a really expensive ring. At the end of the day, it's just a piece of jewelry. It's the symbolism of it that counts!
Good luck :)

What ever you can afford. Some people save every extra penny they can find. My dad got the first ring for my mom for $100 at Kmart, and a few years later when he was done with school and working full time, he got her a $2000 ring from a jewler. It's what you can afford. You don't need to be buy the biggest stone you can find. I'm sure she will understand if it's not some basketball wife's rock. :)

I think you should spend whatever you can afford. Some women care more about the clarity of the diamond than the size of the diamond. Some women don't care how clear the diamond is just as long as its large. If you can't afford a diamond, just buy her a CZ for now. You can always get her something better in the future.

It's supposed to be the equivalent of two months salary. But I personally didn't let my husband spend that much on the engagement ring. When we went ring shopping, I fell in love with a ring that was much cheaper than that formula. Get a ring she will like, or take her with you ring shopping so that you know what she likes. Good luck!

I don't think there is a set amount you should spend. Just find a ring that you like (that she will hopefully like too)! If she knows your $$ situation, she won't be expecting you to go broke just for a ring!!! Although you can finance them...most places offer 0%.

it shouldn't matter there's no price for love.. u could put it on layaway or finance it.. plus we don't care about the price.. we look @ the size and the decor.. which means that u can find a beautiful ring for cheap... it ain't like u gotta broadcast how much u paid for it.. anyway we women r very appreciative.. she'll be happy that ur popping the question...

it shouldn't matter how much the ring costs. if she loves you and you love her, then she will love the ring.
i personally would kill my fiance if he spent a lot on a ring. there are so much more important things to put the money towards, like a house or car ect.
