Surely people understand that terrorists are a minority group, and that their views do not represent that of the majority of Muslims? Can't people see that thay are making innocent Muslims lives hell by generalising them all as terrorists, and that much of the hatred in the world today is due to our own ignorance and reluctance to listen to other people views?

Totally...Its embarassing reading some the answers to the questions posted about Muslims, terrorism etc.

I am ashamed to be British sometimes, I know more indiginous white English people who quite frankly are a waste of skin and oxygen thieves. The Muslims that I do know are kind and generous people without a bad word to say about anyone, sure you get the exception in any race of people but you cannot ever generalise and tar everyone with that image.

Thanks for your question......I was getting a little worried that this was becoming a BNP site.

Take care.

I think that the majority of people realize this. I know that I do not feel hate for them and understand this, but then again I wonder why we don't see more Muslims standing up and speaking out against the extremists and the terrorists groups? Then I wonder why I see groups of Muslims vote in a terrorist organization as their form of government, Palestine's. And why when I watch the news or read a paper I see average Lebanese citizens cheering supporting Hezbollah instead of demanding that their government expel them from their country. I just don't see a lot of Muslims out there publicly opposing the extremists and the terrorists groups. It seems to me like this is something they should be doing if it is not a true statement.

Unfortunately, as is the case in most situations where hatred rears its ugly head, ignorance is the reason. It's one of the less attractive traits of humankind (massive generalization!) that we fear what we don't understand, be it another religion, race or spiders and snakes.

Even worse, the most evident manifestation of hatred based on ignorance in the world today is perpetrated by the present republican government in the US. Moreover, the fact that the Bush government overtly courts the "Religious Right" in a country where the State and church are separated by law makes it even more abhorent.

Generally, we would all be better off if we followed the philosphy that it's not appropriate to criticize (or hate!) what you don't know or understand. People who do that are called bigots!

Generally, I feel you are correct. But the minority who commit these acts are supported by upto 1 quarter. Thats 1 quarter of British Muslims saying these acts are justified. Which makes more British non Muslims hate them even more which makes the Muslims hate the non muslims even more etc.... repeat until death. Many people feel that if the British Muslims intergrated into British Culture more then this would not occur. However, the Muslim culture is very rich and has a long history like the British culture so they refuse to intergrate. Which means they are hated even more. Multi Cultural Societies do not work and never will. 60 million people cannot live in such a small area with lots of different cultures. They will always be conflict, like Man U and Man city, like Everton and Liverpool, etc... Multi race societies can work. But Multicultural does not for many reasons. Some people don't want to learn about other cultures and why try to force them. Let them learn what they want. Some people do not like it when others talk differently and dress differently and eat differently. Thats fine. Some people want to keep things the same and keep themselves to themselves. I don't want to find out about other religions and cultures because they don't interest me. Is that okay? Please don't force me to either. If my neighbour wants to do something different to me thats fine. Crack on, just don't rub my nose in it and don't ask me to particpate in it. I don't like Mcdonalds food. Is that rascism againt one organisation and its employees. Life is a 2 way street, I will scratch your back if you scratch mine.

I think it's horribly scary. I wish I knew the cause of it. I can only speak for America, because that's where I'm from, but I feel like I run across people like this all the time here. This generation- it's hatred for Muslims, the generation above that struggles with Asians due to Vietnam and Pearl Harbor and such, and my grandparents still struggle with African Americans. I don't know if it's a result of simply being uneducated, too sheltered, brainwashed in times of war, or maybe they just never even met people different from themselves... either way, it's very scary. I can only hope that I can raise my children to be educated, tolerant, and never bigoted toward any one group of people.

Unfortunately, not that many Muslims stand up and say publicly that terrorists are bad and do not represent Islam. If a small Christian group was killing people and blowing up stuff, Christian leaders all over the world would be publicly condemning these people. Why don't more Muslims speak up against terror?

People assume that your silence implies that you agree with what the terrorists are doing.

This has been happening for eons. Look at the Salem witch trials, and the way the Mormons were treated in the mid 1800s. People can be a hugely intolerant group. I do think that most of the world is doing better though. There is a small contingency of the population that will always be stupid and ignorant, but the rest of us can show that humanity is in fact improving.

I agree. I try to defend Muslims (and any other group being unfairly put down, but Muslims are by far the most common) on this forum as much as I can, to the point that people start to think I AM Muslim (I'm not, I'm Agnostic). People need to realize that saying "All Muslims are like the terrorists" is like saying "All Christians are like the KKK."

I agree,

That is why I have been studying Islam for the last year and a half, not from anti-Islamic groups, but from themselves.

Not all Muslims are terrorists, but the ones that are can use their Quran to justify radical terrorist behavior.

Islam has grown by the use of the sword, and by not allowing other faiths to practice freely in Islamic countries.

Many Muslims are very good people, but the radicals that have the guns and are not afraid to use them (even on other Muslims) seem to always gain control.

Google Islam in Iran.

To me, many of their punishments are barbaric, stoning etc.

It is definitely a Male dominated Religion, men can have 4 wives, sleep with their servants, divorce on demand. etc...

Peace!

If we live in a world where papers like the sun and the daily mail influence peoples opinions then i am scared, in fact very scared! But i think the hated in the world is more due the hypocrisy that exists. The way peoples live are valued differently because of where they where born, or thier background. In the end things that they can not control!
