because they are extremely easy to train dogs who do what they are told. the same reason most love them is the same reason people hate them. bad owners make bad dogs and good owners make good dogs.
only dogs i have ever owned are pitbulls and none of them have ever hurt anyone to include other dogs and animals.
my grandmother hated pitbulls before she adopted(stole) my dog from me. she was a cancer patient and was more than able to cope with easily thhe best dog she had ever owned.
also pitbulls have an extremely high pain tolerance which actually makes them safer around kids. but dont mistake me in what im saying no child should be left alone with any dog. from the size of a tea cup chihuahua to a mastiff.

I agree. Pitbulls try to please their owners more than any other breed. If you're gentle with them, they will be very gentle. I have a friend who has a pit and her dog is so sweet, she cuddles with their kitten. The media always tells the negative side of the breed. Pitbulls are easily trained and that's why they're used for fighting, not because they're vicious. There was a news story where a lady had her face ripped off by her dog and had to get a face transplant. I bet a lot of people don't know the dog that did it was a Black Labrador.

Any dog can be raised to bite. A Rottweiler can bite with the same amount of presser as a Pitt bull. I own three and I have three children I am not worried they have been in the family for years and have never been aggressive and I don't think that they ever will. It is how they are raised. My friend was bite by a cockier spaniel and they didn't band them. But any trainer will tell you that cockier spaniel's should not be around children just like chows. So is it fair that they only talk about one breed no it is not when all dogs can bite they all have teeth.my brother owns a Pitt and a chiwawa (not sure of spelling) and a lab none of these dogs are a threat to me or anyone else so if you are mean to them then of course they are going to be mean to you. I love them and you should to. I am talking to all the negative answers. Soak this in and think about it.

They want to ban them because there are too many morons out there who don't have a clue how to care for or raise a pit bull correctly. My family raised and bread pits, and even took one in that someone had used for pit fighting. They are wonderful dogs, I can't even begin to praise them enough. But there are too many people that don't understand how a pit bull functions, and the many idiosyncracies linked to pits. They are not your typical dog. People don't understand about not keeping them in groups of dogs, or even around other pit bulls. I think they need to require a permit for breeding and keeping pits, not just ban them. That's just going to lead to what they did with wolves - cross-breading, which tends to make for an even nastier breed, since about the only cross breed that seems to make a loving pit is with a lab.
Either way it's screwed up. Where I live, they keep a pretty close eye on that stuff, and they will do background checks on people who want to own a pit bull. I think its a better way to go.

I hate when people who no nothing about the subject answer the question.
Pitbulls are really not any more aggressive than a Rottweiler, etc. In fact I know many pitbulls that are gentle loving creatures just like any other dog. They are not just waiting to rip a little kids arm off!!!!I It is morons who ABUSE them and train them to be fighting dogs. It is horrible and wrong....you think these dogs enjoy it?? Hell no, they don't want to fight and harm other creatures...their owners just kick the **** out of them when they don't!!!
If you are a responsible pet owner...as you should be with ANY BREED of dog..you should spend time training. A well trained pitbull can be one of the kindest, most gentle, and tranquil pets you will ever have.
How could you compare a pitbull to owning a lion???? jackass

Pit-bulls have jaws that can lock down! Their behavior is unpredictable. Sometime they are very nice when they are pups, but as they age they change. Many times their bad behavior is other people's fault because of how they are or have been treated so some time they do get a bad rap. Unfortunately, there are too many incidents where pit-bulls have really truly ripped children and adults apart! They have been bred for fighting. Their bodies are built for fighting. Have you ever seen the pit-bull dogs that have been used in fights? It is gross; the human abuse, the betting, the physical damage to their bodies. For this reason alone it would be good to stop pit-bull ownership.

I understand what you are saying. I have worked with dogs most of my life and I have not ran across a mean pitbull yet. Most of them are very sweet animals. It is the owners that cause the problems. Every breed has a bad apple and I know there are pitbulls who can be mean, but I firmly believe that the problem is with raiser not the dog.

unfortunatly fear is a contagious disease, and most people are truly fickle and simple minded,if people would stop and think before just jumping on the band wagon,or actually try to meet a few of these wonderful dogs they would realize not all Pitbulls are bad,why not ban all toy breed dogs i know more people who have been bitten by them than people who have been bitten by the bully breeds, but it is because they can and have been known to cause serious damage and the irrisponsible people who own the bad ones and let them get away with it that are causing so much grief for those of us who love and take good responsible care of our pitbulls,i personally think they should come up with a new solution to the problem, such as people who are idiots should not be allowed to own one of these types of dogs, they should be harder to own not killed

In my experience with Pit Bulls, they're USUALLY quite gentle with kids and adults. It's other animals you have to be cautious about. I've seen sweet pits turn to demons as soon as the neighbor's dog comes trotting out.
I live in an area where Pit Bulls are sought out for appearance. "Look at me, I have a fierce warrior dog." In the wrong hands, you have an untamed beast and too many people are wrong for this breed.
Banning the sale of this breed could actually decrease the number of Pit Bull puppies and adults who live up to a year or so, only to be euthanized because of aggression issues. Fighting is in their blood. It takes generation after generation after generation to even try to breed that mentality out of them.
Of all the people I know with them, there is only one that can be trusted with other pets. Trust me, that's not a good ratio. I understand how you feel. There is an exception to everything, but you have to look at the big picture.

unlike (j i z z) i think pittbulls are great dogs. they are the most loyal breed thats why stupid inmature ppl can teach them to fight til death the dog is only doing whats it was taught to do. i have a pitt and she wouldnt harm anyone or thing. i have even owned a pitt that was taught to fight. ( i didnt teach him i saved him) and was able to teach him wrong from good. instead of outlawing a breed why dont ppl be more carefull who they hand the puppies too. my brother even has a pitt and his is just as gentle as mine. true they do not get along with other dogs but some do. i have a black lab that gets along great with my pittbull but they arent the same sex. let me cage some of you jerks with no food and make u walk tread mills for months feeding u only what u need to live then throw u in a cage with another man and a rump roast . lets see how well u act.
