Would Americans have better jobs??? An American person should have the opportunity to have any job they want (if they really want to achive it). I don't understand how some of the anti-immigration believers can say that, according to some, "those filthy, dirty, nasty immigrants take all of our jobs...........". How can that be, do they stop people from going to school or to college to better themselves? How do immigrants stop anyone from getting the education they need to get a good job??? I really don't understand this. No one stopped me form graduating High School and going to college and getting a degree.

No one is suggesting that we shouldn't have legal immigration limited to what we need and crafted to let in exactly those with the skills to most benefit this country.
When my latest arriving ancestors came, for example, the US really needed farmers. It even offered 180 acres to a family that would take the land and make a success of farming it for a stated period of time.
Skilled worker visas, or seasonal H2 visas also work, if enforced by their terms.
No one is categorically against immigration.

Apples and oranges. The Indians had no laws preventing immigration which they considered "illegal."
Colonization of the New World was encouraged, back in the day when space and resources were thought unlimited. Now, pull your head out of that hole and get with the real world.
There's only one pie. The more people, the smaller the individual slice.

Not necessarily. Immigrants work for min. wage or less. Even if we stopped modern immigrants, someone still has to fill those jobs. The American Value of Living has risen so much that many Americans don't want to work for min. wage. Do you think we could afford to pay what they want? Maybe if other parts of the government and economy were done differently, but not at the way it is.

No because the immigration through out American history has helped the American Economy, ie Industrial Revolution. In the early days we needed courageous people to go out and get land for themselves.

Umm...no because my family would have stayed in Germany (we came in the late 1800s for half the family early 1900s for the other half from Norway) and would have been wiped out in the World Wars. My family has created many great paying jobs so it's better for this country that we came.
